Eliezer Fishman, active in the real estate, communications, and retail sectors, is acting on his threat to transfer most of his business overseas, following his disappointment at his treatment by Israel’s government institutions.

It has been learned that Fishman has set up an international communications company with Telecom Italia (his partner in Golden Lines). The new company is intended to serve as a holding company for communications business in Western countries. Fishman holds 30% of the joint company, while Telecom Italia holds the rest.

The joint company is already laying four fiber-optic undersea cables at an overall investment of about $1 billion. The joint company has also acquired partnerships in four ships providing $400 million in services for undersea communications projects. In addition to his activity with Telecom Italia, Fishman is negotiating to buy ownership of local cable television networks in Germany.

Fishman today declined to comment on his overseas investments. At the same time, he spoke about the decision to grant a high-speed Internet license to Bezeq before granting a similar license to the cable companies.

Fishman said that no arrangement was in the offing between the Ministry of Communications and the cable companies. “There is no chance for such an arrangement until Ministry of Finance officials and Adv. Davida Lehman-Messer get their pound of flesh. They won’t get it from me.”

Eliezer Fishman is one of the owners of “Globes”.
