China Constn Bank, Foxconn, HKEx added to Hang Seng Index by HSI Services-UPDATE

HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - HSI Services Ltd, which compiles the Hang Seng Indices, said it will add China Construction Bank (CCB), Foxconn International Holdings (Nachrichten) and Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing (HKEx) to the benchmark Hang Seng Index (HSI) from Sept 11.

At the same time, it said that it will remove the Lenovo Group and Johnson Electric from the benchmark index, effective the same day, bringing the total number of HSI constituent stocks to 34 from 33 currently.

CCB will become the newest H-share among the constituent stocks of the HSI.

HSI Services also said that Bank of China is to be added to the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, while China Southern Airlines and BYD Co are to be dropped.

It also said that it will introduce a cap of 25 pct on individual stock weightings in accordance with changes in compilation methodology that it announced on June 30.

From Sept 11, the freefloat-adjusted factor (FAF) of new HSI constituent stocks China Construction Bank, Foxconn and Hong Kong Exchange will be applied in full, while total market capitalization will be used for the existing constituents, it said.

HSI announced in June the switch from a full market capitalization-weighted formula to a freefloat-adjusted market capitalization-weighted formula, with a cap on individual stock weightings.

It said an FAF will be assigned to the calculation for each constituent stock and that a re-capping exercise will be conducted semi-annually in first quarter and third quarter of every year to coincide with the regular update of the FAF.

Based on the new methodology, weightings of individual stocks in the HSI will change.

HSBC's weighting in the HSI will be cut to 25.00 pct from 29.12 pct, China Mobile's weighting will increase slightly to 18.69 pct from 18.43 pct and that of Hutchison Whampoa will increase slightly to 5.62 pct from 5.54 pct.

The first phase of the changes will take place after the market close on Sept 8.
