3Com-Broadcom enter into networking alliance NEW YORK, Dec 11 (Reuters) - Data networking company 3Com Corp. <COMS.O> and high-speed communications chip maker Broadcom Corp. <BRCM.O> said on Monday they have entered a networking alliance to accelerate the deployment of a local area network technology. 3Com, of Santa Clara, Calif., and Broadcom, of Irvine, Calif., said they intend to develop new products, cross-license technologies, undertake joint sales and marketing and enter into a supply chain agreement. The strategic alliance will accelerate the deployment of Gigabit Ethernet -- very fast local area networking -- into business networks, the companies said. 3Com, which is already a shareholder in Broadcom, said it has issued to Broadcom a warrant to acquire up to 7.1 million shares of 3Com stock, representing about 2 percent of 3Com`s outstanding shares, through Dec. 4, 2002.
