Hi,

Ericsson and Icelandic network operator, Lina.Net, have joined in a ground breaking contract on delivery of “Fiber To The Home” in Reykjavik worth SEK 120 million – one of the most extensive “Fiber To The Home” contracts to date. It is also the first project that brings fiber-optical network to a whole area in a big city.
With up to 100 megabit band width in the new fiber network, the citizens of Reykjavik will benefit from services such as Digital TV, Video-on-demand, high-speed Internet access (100Mbps), advanced security systems, home shopping and education.
“We are proud of this break through on Fiber To The Home. People have been talking about Fiber To The Home for long time. Now, we are able to offer it to thousands of citizens in Reykjavik, and we see great global perspectives in our solutions”, says Eirikur Bragason, Managing Director in Lina.Net.
To Ericsson, the agreement constitutes another success for the trademark on optical fiber network, Ribbonet™. “We are very happy to deliver the concept for one of most innovative and largest Fiber To The Home deals to date. Ericsson provides a total solution including all aspect from network design to delivery of cables and other components”, says Brian Madsen, Product Group Manager, Ericsson Components Distribution.
“Broadband technologies will empower home communication far beyond what is possible today. Consumers will be ‘always on’ and have vast selection of services for entertainment, shopping, home working and much more – with no waiting times”, says Brian Madsen.
Lina.Net was founded by the Reykjavik Energy Company just a year ago in order to provide services for companies in the telecommunication market. “Creating one of the biggest Fiber To The Home projects ever is well in line with Lina.Net’s strategy of being the leader in connecting homes through fiber-optical network”, says Eirikur Bragason.
