GMi and Lina.Net agree to co-operate to distribute digital television.
Agreements made with television stations and other content providers.

GMi´s digital television services will reach one thousand homes though Lina.Nets´s fiber-to-the-home network this year. Customers will have various content because of GMi´s agreements with content providers. Icelandic and foreign television stations, VOD, Internet, T-commerce and banking are some of the services that will be available to Icelandic customers in the end of the year.
GMi and Lina.Net have come to an agreement to use Lina.Net´s fiber-to-the-home network to distribute GMi´s digital interactive television services. GMi´s service will be available to all homes in Iceland within three years. The agreement with Lina.Net is the first step in reaching the whole nation.

GMi´s service on Lina.Net´s network will be increased simultaniously with the increase of new customers on the distribution network. Lina.Net has already chosen six areas in the capital of Reykjavik and surrounding suburbs that will be connected in the end of this year. About one thosand homes will be connected now, but Lina.Net expects to connect 18.000 homes in total. The customers will have 100 Mb/s connection on the fiber-to-the-home network.

GMi is offering an open platform, which means that television stations and other content providers can offer their content to GMi´s customers. GMi has already made agreements with both Icelandic and foreign television stations as well as distributors of film and television programs as well as other content that has not been offered on Icelandic television before. The content will be introduced to viewers in the next few weeks.

In order to use GMi´s services, the customers will lease set-top-boxes for free. The customers can then watch television and interact by using their current analog television sets.

Interactive digital television will make it possible for viewers to choose their own television programs and films and give them access to various interactive services. The viewer can therefore design their own television programs, pay for the services they want as well as accessing educational programming and new movies.

Interactive digital television gives television viewers the opportunity to become television users. Television users will have access to various television channels, pay-per-view and video-on-demand. Thus, viewers can pay for the services and television content that they choose to watch when they want as well as giving television users the opportunity to access the Internet through television and various services such as distance learning, television games, banking and television commerce.
