The Met@box 1000 is constructed on modules allowing a variety of different configurations based on the clients needs. These modules are easily connected or disconnected in order to minimise the effort of satisfying the different specifications needs of the different customers. Possible features include, a DVD player, a harddisk (>20GB, e.g. for the digital video recorder application ( pers. VR = “possible”, aber wohl noch nicht serienreif ) , the possibility to play CDs or MP3 files, pay-TV features, an answering machine, a smart card reader and e-mail and SMS functionality as well as the Internet access which comes in line with all Set-Top boxes on the market. The picture-in-picture (PiP) availability allows the customer surfing the Internet or writing an e-mail while simultaneously seeing the current TV program. Top functionality of the box.

- SFA wird Mitte 2000 (e) die 8000er haben. Mbox (e) die Phoenix 2000er.
- SFA kooperiert in Sachen TV mit Panasonic. Mbox mit GRAETZ / Continental Edison.
- SFA kooperiert mit Intel ( home network solution ) u.a. Mbox bezieht von Motorola den „coldfire“ Multimediaprozessor, von Panasonic die Fernbedienungen und kooperiert mit DVD – SW Marktführer Ravisent ( icl. Überkreuzbeteiligung ), mit Ubi Soft Entertainment S.A. ( führenden Hersteller von Spiele- und Edutainmentsoftware ) usw.
Mbox fertigt nicht selbst sondern lässt dies die US-Unternehmen SCI und Flextronic ( die größten Elektronikproduzenten weltweit ) an ihren Produktionsstandorten in Deutschland und Schweden übernehmen. Fazit: Bei Mbox ist alles eine ( + ) Nummer kleiner. Aber sie bleiben offenbar am Ball und machen nicht die schlechteste Figur ( vgl. Nokia d-II Box TÜV Bericht s.o. „Industrieschrott“ ).

SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA’s Position ist aus Mbox - Perspektive Science Fiction. In der iTV – Metropole S. iTV ATLANTIS hat aber Mbox m. E. keineswegs die lausigste Bruchbude. Vielmehr ist die Phoenix eine der schöneren Bauten. Durchaus ausbaufähig zum Palast...
