SuperCable Selects Motorola`s Interactive Digital Broadband Platform To Deploy the First Completely Digital Cable Network in Latin America

HORSHAM, Pa., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Broadband Communications Sector announced today that SuperCable Venezuela, Venezuela`s largest multi-service operator (MSO), is deploying Motorola`s interactive digital cable platform to its newest cable system in Bogota, Colombia, as well as its system in Caracas, Venezuela. The Bogota system represents a significant milestone -- the first all-digital cable television system of its kind anywhere in Latin America.

SuperCable plans to immediately provide digital video and digital audio services using Motorola`s DCT line of digital set-top terminals, including both the DCT-1000 and DCT-2000, and then follow up with interactive applications throughout the year. Motorola`s interactive digital broadband platform is capable of delivering the latest interactive digital services including video-on-demand (VOD), high-speed Internet access/Web-browsing, e-commerce, e-mail, and IP telephony.

"We look forward to being SuperCable`s technology partner in evolving their cable television network to deploy a suite of interactive services over the coming years," said Denton Kanouff, Vice President and General Manager of Motorola`s Worldwide Interactive Networks (WIN) business unit. "SuperCable`s strong, focused team helped execute this deployment in less than two months, showing that they share Motorola`s commitment to world-wide deployment of interactive cable services."

According to Ahmad Khamsi, SuperCable`s president and CEO, "SuperCable selected Motorola`s platform because it is the most powerful and widely deployed interactive digital broadband solution in the world. With this digital platform in place, we will be equipped to provide our subscribers with today`s most advanced interactive services."

He added, "We are impressed with the fast, efficient deployment capabilities of Motorola`s technology team, and we look forward to continuing and building upon our successful 10-year relationship."

Motorola`s interactive digital broadband platform is based on SCTE`s standards for ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) compliance. DigiCipher® II technology provides encryption for digital television systems sending compressed video service to cable television head-ends, television network affiliates, corporate locations or consumer homes. The technology compresses and multiplexes both standard television (SDTV) and high-definition (HDTV) signals within a single, integrated transmission system.
