hallo leute hört sich wirklich nicht schlecht an,
heute wieder eine Meldung:

Redback launches new SmartEdge optical gear
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Redback Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:RBAK - news) announced on Tuesday new networking equipment aimed at telecommunications service providers looking to manage voice, data and fax services over the same network.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Redback said that with the SmartEdge 100, it beats rivals, including Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news), to the market.

``No one else has a product like this today,`` said Mark Weiner, director of corporate marketing at Redback.

The SmartEdge 100 lets service providers intelligently oversee large-scale networks, as well as add new services for customers at the flick of a switch rather than having to send technical staff out to physically rewire cabling. That cuts the time for adding new services from weeks and months to mere hours, Weiner said.

Redback, which shipped an earlier, more powerful version called the SmartEdge 800 six months ago, acquired the technology from its $4 billion merger with Siara Systems last year.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) bought Siara`s rival, Cerant Corp., in 1999 for $7 billion in stock, but has yet to bring out products related to that acquisition.

The SmartEdge 100 can handle thousands of users in a metropolitan area network running as fast as ten gigabits per second, said Weiner. It manages data transmission using Internet Protocols (IP), which is more efficient and powerful than older voice-based telecom protocols, he said.

Redback also said on Monday that it had won a two-year, $120 million contract to supply SmartEdge 800 networking gear to Tulsa, Okla., telecommunications operator, Williams Communications Group Inc. (NYSE:WCG - news).

Redback ended regular trading Monday before the announcement up $4-3/4 to $46-5/8.
