Many retailers require that products be source tagged with Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS anti-shoplifting) tags prior to being shipped to the stores, particularly if they are to be openly merchandised, however two competing but incompatible technologies are in widespread use in stores today, meaning that to comply, a manufacturer would either have to split its production by source tag technology and then manage multiple inventories, or apply more than one tag to each bottle.
