Canal+ chooses IDP`s Regieline

Canal Digital, the leading Nordic Pay-TV operator signs an agreement with IDP for the provision of IDP`s software tools to build interactive TV services.

Under the agreement, IDP will initially make available its RegieLine technology to Canal Digital using the MediaHighway development environment. Canal Digital is planning in the near future to migrate to a MHP middleware solution and the agreement also calls for IDP to port its RegieLine system to MHP.

RegieLine has a sophisticated editing tool that enables content owners to create services in all the main areas of interactive TV - interactive adverts, magazines, enhanced programs, T-commerce and live data services. As RegieLine creates its applications independently of the final broadcast platform, clients of Canal Digital will be able to create their services once and then simulcast them in both MediaHighway and MHP middleware.

The deal covers the four Scandinavian countries plus Iceland. Canal Digital chose RegieLine technology on the basis of its flexibility, simplicity and ease of implementation.

"RegieLine`s features will allow us to quickly broaden the range of interactive services on offer to our subscribers. We intend to use this tool to develop a complete range of i-TV-services, from Enhanced TV solutions to shopping outlets, magazines, real time weather and stock exchange data."

Said Terje Storhaug, Canal Digital`s COO, Products and Technology. "Furthermore, content providers seeking to develop new applications can be confident that the technology is simple to use and future proof". IDP`s CEO Charlie Horrell said: "With this deal, IDP is demonstrating that RegieLine is an excellent solution for both broadcasters and content owners. Multi-platform, multi-application is the future of interactive TV. This five year deal, from which IDP receives annual royalties from Canal Digital, shows the compelling logic of our software. In addition to Canal Digital, RegieLine has already been implemented on the French pay TV broadcaster CanalSatellite in a very similar technical environment".
