Australia nears top of gold list
Saturday 21 April 2001
Australian gold producers were closing the gap on the world`s largest producer, South Africa, according to an international study released yesterday.
Australian gold production fell by four tonnes, or 1 per cent , to 296 tonnes in 2000, 132tonnes shy of South Africa`s result, the Gold Fields Mineral Services` Gold Survey showed. Gold production in South Africa eased 22 tonnes to 450 tonnes (ca. 5%) last year.
Man bedenke, dass Australien aufholt, weil Südafrika noch stärker abfällt (!).

India bullion prices firm amid reduced supplies, steady demand
Mumbai, April 20 (BridgeNews) - Indian gold prices stayed firm during the
week ending Friday amid falling supplies and steady domestic demand, dealers
said. Supplies of unofficial gold were affected by the border clashes in
eastern India with neighboring country Bangladesh. The Indo-Bangladesh border
was calm but tense Friday, after fresh firing overnight had threatened to
prolong the worst frontier skirmishes between the South Asian neighbors for 30
years.
