Synbiotics Corp. announces FluDetect® avian influenza virus test meets live bird market standards

Kansas City, MO: February 26, 2008 - At the annual Live Bird Market Working Group Meeting, Miami, Florida, February 20-21, 2008 the nomination was made to include in the LBMS Uniform Standards a USDA licensed type A Influenza antigen capture immunoassay (ACIA) test to detect Influenza A nucleoprotein and for use as an official screening test for Avian Influenza. The ACIA must be conducted using test kits approved by USDA and the State and must be conducted in accordance with recommendations of the manufacturer and to follow the guidelines as written in the LBMS Uniform Standards document.

Currently the only commercial USDA licensed rapid screening test for Avian Influenza is the FluDETECT® Rapid Test Kit manufactured by Synbiotics Corporation, Kansas City, Missouri. FluDETECT®, an ACIA test, is also an official methodology approved by the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). “The inclusion of USDA approved rapid antigen tests in the LBMS Uniform Standards is great news for consumers and the poultry industry and Synbiotics’ FluDETECT® product was designed as a screening test and is well suited for such field use as is encountered at live bird markets”, said Paul Hays, President & CEO of Synbiotics Corporation.
