0834 [Dow Jones] Recently slumping Macau casino shares may get some relief from South China Morning Post report Macau government plans to mandate cap on commission rates paid by casino operators to VIP junket agents as early as next month. Recent sector weakness in part due to concerns escalating rates would hurt casino operators' profitability. Still, huge rebound unlikely on doubts such a mandatory cap would be successful, as hinges on how stringently government would enforce rule; casinos, junkets could bypass rule through arrangements such as financing agreements. Also, rule would try to fix symptom instead of cause - cut-throat competition. Galaxy Entertainment (0027.HK [News / Quote]) fell 26.7% in past month, Melco (0200.HK [News / Quote]) tumbled 36.1%, vs HSI down 13.0% in same period.
