Spatializer Audio Laboratories aims to change all that with its Digital OntheGo FX algorithm, which the company expects to be incorporated into a significant portion of all the handheld players shipped by the end of the year. OntheGo FX is based on psychoacoustic techniques that fool your ear into thinking it hears sounds that your speakers aren`t actually producing. It includes a 3-D Stereo component that makes music appear to be coming from widely spaced sources much larger than your earphones. It also boasts a Virtual Bass Enhancement (ViBE) function that makes bass output seem louder without requiring additional amplifier power -- a neat trick for devices that run on limited battery power. Together, these features produce a broader, more spacious sound field with a pulsing, percussive low end. OntheGo FX will appear in the second half of this year, and players that incorporate the technology will display the Spatializer logo on their packaging.
