Chicago PMI falls in May By Rachel Koning
The Chicago-area business index fell in May to a seasonally adjusted 38.7, the National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago said Thursday. The index in April was 38.9. An index below 50 signals a contracting manufacturing economy, while a reading above 50 suggests growth. The prices paid index rose to 56.1 in May from 55.8 in April. The employment component rose to 33.4 in May from 30.7 in April, its lowest level since October 1980.
