Serbia: Austrian A-Tec eyes RTB Bor 16:12 - 28 January 2009 Austrian A-Tec said it is interested in buying the ailing copper mine and smelter RTB Bor, local media report. State-owned RTB Bor suffered losses of EUR 1.5 million (USD 2 million) in 2008, due to the 25-days production halt on excessive pollution. In November, Serbia's Privatisation Agency launched a tender for RTB Bor for the fourth time, with the starting price set at EUR 232 million. A-Tec won the second tender but negotiations failed as the company failed to provide payment guarantees on time. The deadline for placing bids for the 67% of RTB Bor, was set for January 30. The prospective buyer of RTB Bor will be required to take over all EUR 309 million worth of company debts and to complete welfare and environmental protection programs. |
