Korea`s largest broadband provider to install Redback`s Subscriber Management System in five new major metropolitan

cities for its network expansion

Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of advanced networking systems for metro optical and broadband networks, today announced that Korea`s Hanaro Telecom (NASDAQ:HANA) has placed a second multi-million dollar order for the Redback(R) SMS(TM) subscriber management system to expand its DSL network throughout Korea, the world`s fastest growing Internet broadband market. As per the latest agreement, Hanaro will deploy the SMS(TM) 10000 subscriber management system platform across five cities in Korea, including Eastern Pusan, Sungbook, Dongjak, Inchon and Kangnam. The SMS 10000 units will manage the provisioning of services to Hanaro`s broadband subscriber base, currently growing at 8,000 subscribers per day. Hanaro currently boasts one and a half million broadband ADSL customers in Korea and is by far the largest provider of such services in Korea.

Mr. Bae Dong-Hwa, Director of Transmission Network Planning Team for Hanaro Telecom, explained, "As the largest and most successful provider of intelligent broadband services in Korea, we realized early on that Hanaro needed to expand beyond connection-based revenues. As connectivity becomes a commodity, providing rich interactive multimedia content in a reliable, scalable environment has become a key priority, and our customers are demanding increasingly versatile services, even at the network level. The SMS 10000 enables Hanaro to fulfill those requirements today, while preparing to meet the scalability requirements of the future."

The new multi-million dollar contract augments an earlier agreement for Redback SMS 10000s to be deployed in 10 cities across the Korean peninsula, including Seoul, Pusan, Incheon, Suwon, Kwangju, Taejon, Taegu and Ulsan. According to analyst group IDC, Internet users in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan) will exceed 240 million by 2005, outnumbering the United States. IDC also predicts that Internet users in Korea, China and India will account for more than 72 percent of this number by which 2005.

The SMS 10000 is the top-of-the-line product in Redback`s SMS product family, featuring powerful hardware purpose-built for scaling broadband networks to millions of subscribers. This hardware is seamlessly integrated with Redback`s production- proven AOS software, used for over four years by the world`s largest carriers and service providers.
