MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- ``Batter Up!`` OpenTV (Nasdaq: OPTV; AEX), the world`s leading interactive television and media solutions company, announces the first-ever interactive television (iTV) fantasy sports series with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), offering the estimated 30 million U.S. fantasy sports fans the opportunity to interact with their television on a whole new level. The new iTV fantasy sport games are initially intended for U.S. broadcast and will be available through OpenTV`s service providers -- including USA Media Cable Group by fall 2001.
OpenTV`s iTV fantasy sports line-up will be inaugurated with the launch of its baseball application called ``Big League TV by MLBPA.`` On cable or satellite networks, enthusiasts will use the interactive application on their set-top box to view baseball statistics, real-time scores, player profiles and relevant news and standings from STATS Inc., the nation`s leading sports information and statistical analysis company. Additionally, interactive fantasy baseball games can be played either on dedicated game channels, or while the viewer is watching a television program.

``Big League TV by MLBPA`` will be rolled out in three phases over the course of a year. In July 2001, viewers will be able to play interactive fantasy baseball games and retrieve statistics and information. The second phase will empower viewers to interact and compete nationally with millions of other iTV users. Finally, t-commerce functionality will be added in phase three, enabling consumers to purchase their favorite sport items through their television.
