The foundation for future growth in China is strong. Investors will benefit by concentrating on three sectors for investment; automobiles, financial services and energy.

Automobiles:
The emerging middle class has enabled domestic car sales to rise quite dramatically over the past five years. For example, General Motors now sells more cars in China than in the U.S. Executives at Chinese car companies said consumers today have the consumption craze and cars are now in the range of a whole new type of buyer. The automakers I spoke with said they have unmet market demand. If they could produce more, they could sell more. It is striking that 80% of car buyers today are first-time buyers.

Two favorites in the sector include DongFeng Motor Group and Geely Automobile holdings Ltd.

DongFeng is well positioned as the third-largest auto maker in China and expects to sell 1.3 million units in 2009, up from 1.05 million units in 2008. Geely's major advantage is their small car product line. The demand for small, low-cost cars is fantastic and unmet today. The company will produce and sell about 250,000 cars in 2009 and expects to increase their production to over 400,000 cars in 2010.
Financial services

...

Think about where the U.S. was 100 years ago and you gain an understanding of where China is at the moment and the opportunities available to investors. Skeptics will cite valuation, recent performance or regulatory as reasons for pessimism, but change is in the air and China offers investors the opportunity of a lifetime. There is no doubt in my mind that the best investment opportunities in the world's economy will be originating in Asia for some time.
