Taking advantage of significant new engineering advances in Nanophase`s patented Physical Vapor Synthesis (PVS) process, the additional products feature uniformly small particle sizes with narrow particle size distributions, while retaining their unique discrete non-aggregating properties. NanoTek® Zinc Oxide HP now features average particle sizes in two distinct ranges, 35 and 65 nanometers, coupled with higher levels of chemical purity and is targeted for high reliability electronics applications including capacitors, varistors, photoprinting and electrophotography. Nanophase also has the ability to provide certain custom particle size ranges on request for other specific applications. NanoTek® Aluminum Oxide HP is available as dry powder with average particle size ranges from 30 to 60 nanometers and as slurry with improved particle size distribution and is targeted for: polishing applications, including semiconductors and rigid memory disks; use in the lighting industry for fabrication of transparent glass envelopes for high intensity lighting applications; and, for high performance thermal spray applications. The material will also be integrated in applications for the company`s abrasion resistant coatings. NanoTek® Cerium Dioxide HP is available in a particle range of 8 - 16 nanometers, also with improved particle size distribution, and, like NanoTek® Aluminum Oxide HP, is targeted for polishing applications, including semiconductors and rigid memory disks, as well as catalysis applications requiring high surface areas combined with high levels of chemical purity. Specific catalysis areas include chemical catalysts and environmental catalysts. All of the above products are available as dry powders and as dispersions in a variety of solvents, both aqueous and organic. The new products can also be surface treated using Nanophase`s patented Discrete Particle Encapsulation (DPE) process with a variety of proprietary coating materials, engineered to meet specific customer applications, and dispersed in a variety of solvents and media. ``We believe that there are a variety of applications for these new nanocrystalline materials,`` stated Dr. Don Freed, Nanophase`s vice-president of business development. ``We intend to continue to expand our product offerings to encompass a broad range of new, improved materials and we plan to offer HP versions of our iron oxide, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, and copper oxide in the near future.`` Initial Materials From Nanophase`s Audrey Process Nanophase also announced that it has developed the technology to produce aluminosilica nanocrystalline powders. The aluminosilica powders are the first material available from the company`s new nanocrystalline process, code- named Audrey. The powders may be produced in varying compositions between alumina and silica. These exciting new nanopowders have potential applications including thermal barrier coatings, oxidation resistance, optically non-interfering pigments that impart increased strength and durability, and chemical resistance. Selected customer sampling is underway and research quantities are available by contacting Nanophase. The company has also produced chromia, chromium oxide, nanocrystalline powders and is in initial testing, selected customer sampling, and scale-up.
