Denison breaks ground with its Sask. exploration
Denison Mines Corp. says the first part of a multi-faceted 2011 exploration program at the Wheeler River project is underway.

The Wheeler River Joint Venture -Denison owns 60 per cent of the project -has approved $10 million for the 2011 program, making it the largest exploration program on the site in northern Saskatchewan in its 35-year history. The first part of the program will test several high-priority targets at Wheeler River's high-grade Phoenix deposit. Denison expects 34 holes totalling 15,000 metres will be drilled at the site this winter, followed by a 20,000-metre drill program in the summer.

The 2011 program also includes environmental programs, engineering studies and geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations as part of a development strategy for Wheeler River. An earlier concept study on the property suggested a $690-million uranium mine, which could produce six million to eight million tonnes of U3O8 annually, could be in production by early 2019 if a positive production decision is made in 2013.

Cameco Corp. and JCU (Canada) Exploration Co., Ltd., are the other two partners in the Wheeler River Joint Venture. Cameco owns 30 per cent and JCU 10 per cent.
