STRONG SELL MEDIGENE ZIEL 10 EURO!!!!! GEWINNWARNUNG NR.1 Protein Design reports lower Q2 profits FREMONT, Calif., Aug 2 (Reuters) - Biotechnology company Protein Design Labs Inc. (NasdaqNM:PDLI - news) on Thursday reported lower second-quarter earnings as higher spending outpaced a 6 percent increase in revenues. Protein Design, which specializes in developing antibodies to treat diseases, said it had net income of $3.1 million, or 7 cents per diluted share, compared with net income of $5 million, or 12 cents per share, a year ago. Estimates from Wall Street analysts ranged from a profit of 1 cent per share to 10 cents per share, with an average of 6 cents per share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call. Second-quarter revenues rose to $21.6 million from $20.4 million in the same 2000 quarter. Total costs and expenses in the second quarter were $18.5 million, compared with $15.3 million a year earlier. Looking ahead, the company repeated previous guidance that it expects to post near break-even results by the end of 2001, despite costs and expenses rising by between 20 percent to 25 percent. |
