The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------<p>Number of mobile phone subscribers up more than 40 percent Clear improvement in results in the second quarter<p>In the first six months of 2001, the Drillisch group increased the number of mobile phone subscribers by more than 40 percent from 375,000 as at 30 June 2000 to 530,000 as at 30 June 2001. In this core business segment, sales revenues could be increased by 7.2 percent from DM 161.9 million to DM 173.5 million. In total, the sales revenues in the first six months of 2001 amounted to DM 174.4 million.<p>The EBITDA adjusted for extraordinary effects is DM 2.2 million in the second quarter 2001 (first quarter 2001: DM 0.1 million). The EBIT adjusted for extraordinary effects amounts to DM 0.9 million in the second quarter 2001 (first quarter 2001: DM -0.9 million) and the EBT adjusted for extraordinary effects amounts to DM 0.3 million in the second quarter 2001 (first quarter 2001: DM -1.7 million). The following exrtraordinary effects were considered: Goodwill amortization (DM -2.0 million, i.e. DM -1.0 million per quarter), yields in the first quarter 2001 from the sale of the band operations and the remaining purchasing price of the fixed network segment (DM 2.5 million) as well as other expenditures (restructuring costs, CeBIT costs, costs for the general meeting and special allowances of DM -1.6 million, i.e. DM -0.9 million in the first quarter and DM -0.7 million in the second quarter).<p>The result of ordinary business activities clearly improved in the second quarter 2001 in comparison to the result of the first quarter and was up from DM 0.1 million to DM 2.2 million. This is primarily due to cost savings as a result of an optimization of processes as well as reduced marketing costs. For the rest of the year 2001, we expect a similar develpoment. Drillisch AG has a special focus on cost optimization and thus productivity growth.
