BW)(VT-APPLIED-BIOMETRICS) Fingerprint Identification Technology for Gun Control Now Being Demonstrated by Applied Biometrics

International Security Conference & Expo
Booth #554

BURLINGTON, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2000--Following the heightened activity in the Federal Government concerning "smart guns", Applied Biometrics Products, Inc. announced that their Kryptic(TM) fingerprint identification technology, which they have developed over the past 13 months, is ready for application to this critical requirement.
Smart guns limit firearms operation to only authorized users via an electronic "lock", such as an electronic fingerprint device, and the critical need for such a device has now reached the highest levels. President Clinton`s proposed smart gun grant, which was discussed in the Wall Street Journal on January 27, promises to bring the smart gun into mainstream use faster than we all predicted. However, Applied Biometrics has the only fingerprint identification technology that is ready to fill this immediate need for a small, portable fingerprint device.
Applied Biometrics` Kryptic(TM) technology, which was first demonstrated to the public at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2000) in Las Vegas, is the world`s only portable fingerprint identification technology which is capable of battery-operated fingerprint identification.
In 1998, during their initial market survey of potential customers, Applied Biometrics identified many markets that required portable, battery-operated, low-cost, fingerprint identification. Yet, they found no one had this capability. Instead, other fingerprint identification companies have been completely focused on PC-based products or modules that required power to be taken from wall outlets.
Applied Biometrics was formed, by a group of private investors and experienced electronics industry professionals, specifically to develop low-cost, battery-operated, fingerprint identification products. The result of their research and development efforts is their patented(a) Kryptic(TM) fingerprint identification technology. Kryptic(TM) operates for many months on ordinary AAA batteries. And, Kryptic(TM) is self-contained, which means that it does not need any additional electronics or computers to do its job.

Applied Biometrics` low-cost Kryptic(TM) technology is the world`s only solution for this firearms application, as well as many other portable fingerprint identification solutions. Applied Biometrics is currently discussing applications of their portable, battery-operated Kryptic(TM) fingerprint identification technology in the following markets:

- Firearms Access

- Automotive

- Home Security and Access Control

- Door Locks

- Palm Pilot Applications

- Portable Computing, including Windows CE handhelds and peripherals.

The Kryptic(TM) technology will be demonstrated in Applied Biometrics` booth at the International Security Conference & Expo (ISC), March 14 - 16, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth #554.

For more information, or to discuss application of the Kryptic(TM) technology for your product needs, please contact Applied Biometrics` marketing group at (603) 544-8405 or appliedbiometrics@usa.net.
