Vielleicht wirds ja doch noch was mit dem Auftrag aus UK:

Biometrics not just a face in the crowd
By Network News staff
The UK Government`s plan to inject £78m into CCTV schemes throughout the UK could boost biometric security technology, which uses physical characteristics to identify individuals.

In networking it has been touted as a more secure method of authentication than passwords and digital certificates, because of the unique configuration of human features.

Bob Lack, leader of security services at Newham Council in east London, said that biometric recognition had helped his borough`s fight against crime.

Newham`s CCTV system automatically scans the faces of people passing in front of the camera and attempts to match the image with a database of convicted criminals stored at the police control centre.

"In the 10 worst affected London boroughs, street crime rose between 12 and 58 per cent in the period April to July 2001," said Lack. "In Newham the rise was 0.4 per cent."

He conceded that this was not down to biometrics alone, but said it was "an important piece of the jigsaw". Newham rolled out the full system in July 2000.

Called FaceIt, the system was developed by Visionics and has been in use since July 1998. Images that fail to match against the police database are not stored.
