Indonesia has traditionally supplied around three quarters of China’s imported bauxite requirements until electing early last year to ban such exports in favour of incountry value-adding of its key mineral commodities. Demand in China for third-party bauxite has been forecast to (by independent analysis) increase by 50% by 2019 (estimated at approximately 50Mt) and this will represent strong opportunities for bauxite producers. Mr Gillies says these market changes are creating the strong global demand and outlook fundamentals for bauxite. |
