AMOLED panels used in 20% of China smartphones sold during 1H15, says firm Rebecca Kuo, Tainan; Alex Wolfgram, DIGITIMES [Monday 3 August 2015] Approximately 15 million of the smartphones sold in China during the first half of 2015 used AMOLED panels, up 19.9% on year, according to Sigmaintell Consulting. Overall smartphone shipments in the China market during the first half reached 201 million, down 1.7% on year, of which around 15 million were AMOLED units to represent a 19.9% share. The firm said the use of AMOLED was more for strategic purposes to have differentiated products in the market as the China handset market is starting to cool down. Heading into the second half of 2015, vendors are expected to release even more smartphones equipped with AMOLED, with most supply coming from Samsung Display. As of the first half, China vendors that have used AMOLED panels from Samsung include Vivo, Oppo, Coolpad, Lenovo, and ZTE in addition to others. Despite the cooldown in the first half of 2015, the firm said it expects smartphone shipments in China to grow 7-10% on year in the second half, and that total smartphone shipments in China during 2015 will grow 3-5% on year to 405 million. |
