DENSO’s Navigation System Ranks Highest in Customer Satisfaction, Reports J.D. Power and Associates

Satisfaction Level Highest in Study’s Three-Year History (12/3/2001)

“DENSO, which introduced its first navigation system back in 1987, is one of the few companies in the world that develops global car navigation systems and supplies them to automakers in Japan, Europe and North America.”

In 2000, DENSO’s in-vehicle navigation system was the first to offer complete digital U.S. map coverage. The company successfully merged two mapping databases to create a single new DVD database that covers all U.S. highways and urban and rural areas.

Denso`s navigation system for Cadillac and others will benefit from merged urban and rural navigation databases.
Denso Corp. has announced that its in-vehicle navigation system for North America will be the first to offer complete digital U.S. map coverage. ITS Research General Manager Richard Pearlman of Denso International America, Inc. said, "We successfully merged two mapping databases to create a single new database that covers all U.S. highways and urban and rural areas. This is the first time that such complete U.S. in-vehicle navigation coverage has been available." Previous Denso navigation systems featured only U.S. highways and urban areas.
Geographic Data Technology, Inc. (GDT), of Lebanon, NH, and Navigation Technologies, Inc. (NavTech) of Rosemont, IL, supplied the two original databases. Individually, the GDT database included detailed urban and rural streets and addresses, while the NavTech database focused on U.S. highways and urban areas.

The new merged database will be offered to customers whose cars are equipped with Denso`s new digital versatile disk (DVD) navigation systems. Currently, these navigation systems are available on the Lexus LS 400 and GS, Jaguar S-Type, and Cadillac DeVille and Seville. In future systems, Denso will merge car navigation with its wireless communication technology to bring wireless Internet access to the in-vehicle computing terminal.
