Intershop and Commerce One Announce New Software Solution; Gives Easy Access To Online B2B Marketplaces
LONDON, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Intershop Communications, Inc., the world`s leading provider of sell-side electronic commerce software, and Commerce One, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMRC), the leader in global electronic commerce solutions for business, today announced a ground-breaking E-commerce software solution, called Marketplace Connector. It will provide global businesses with easy access to online B2B marketplaces.
Under the terms of the partnership agreement, Intershop and Commerce One agreed to co-develop and co-market the Marketplace Connector, a solution that enables Intershop`s more than 100,000 customers worldwide to connect to Commerce One MarketSite, an Internet portal for exchanging goods and services among businesses worldwide.
At the eLink conference today, Eckhard Pfeiffer, Intershop Chairman, described the company`s Sell Anywhere vision for the future of e-commerce. "Selling Anywhere will revolutionize how e-commerce is done today, and will become an integral part of every business` strategy," he said in a speech at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Pfeiffer explained that Sell Anywhere encompasses flexible business models using Intershop solutions. Besides one-to-one direct selling, companies gain the competitive edge by selling indirectly through online business to business marketplaces, affiliate sites and auctions.
Pfeiffer said these new business models lead to increased efficiencies and reduced transaction costs. And Intershop solutions such as its premiere Intershop enfinity product, along with the Intershop/Commerce One Marketplace Connector, will provide suppliers with easy, flexible access to these B2B Internet portals. "The Marketplace Connector will act as the conduit through which existing business systems will be able to automatically communicate over the Internet with the online marketplace," he said.
The Marketplace Connector will provide suppliers with easy access to Commerce One MarketSite as well as other business-to-business Internet portals on the Commerce One Global Trading Web, the world`s largest business-to-business trading community. Comprised of many interoperating portals, the Global Trading Web provides unprecedented economies of scale for buying organizations, suppliers, and service providers worldwide. The result is the greatest choice for all trading partners-the largest choice of suppliers, prices, and selection for buyers, the largest market for goods and services for suppliers, and new efficiencies and opportunities for market makers.
