[posting]53572020[/posting]Enagas ups stake in Peru’s TgP to 28.94%

Spanish gas transporter Enagas has completed its purchase of a 2.96% stake in Transportadora de Gas del Peru (TgP), as it continues to reinforce its position in the company.

The new acquisition, which was first announced in mid-October, takes the firm’s total stake in the Peruvian gas pipeline operator to 28.94%.

It acquired the stake from French power firm Engie. At the same time, Engie sold the rest of its stake in TgP to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).

The final purchase price was US$63 million rather than the previously stated US$65 million, Enagas said in a statement to the Spanish stock exchange regulator CNMV.

Following the deal, CPPIB will have a 49.88% stake in TgP, while Sipco Peru Pipelines will have the remaining 21.18% stake in the company.

TgP, which began operating commercially in 2004, transports most of Peru’s natural gas. Its assets include the 729-km gas pipeline that connects the giant Amazonian Camisea gas fields to the province of Lima.

The Spanish utility has been steadily expanding its ownership of TgP in the last two years, including the acquisition of a 1.24% stake in April and a 3.94% stake last year, among others.

The Madrid-headquartered firm originally acquired a 20% stake in TgP in 2014. At the same time, it purchased a 30% stake in Compania Operadora de Gas del Amazonas, which operates and maintains TgP’s transmission system.

The Spanish utility is also a member of the consortium developing the US$6 billion Gasoducto Sur Peruano pipeline, which will initially transport 500 mmcf (14 mcm) per day of gas from the central Amazonian region to the industrial south of Peru.

Enagas also owns another pipeline in the country, which carries gas liquids from Camisea to the Pisco fractioning plant on Peru’s southern Pacific coastline.

Present in the Andean nation since 2014, Enagas has said it will help Peru improve its security of supply. Besides Peru, Enagas also has Latin American assets in Mexico and Chile, including stakes in Mexican gasification plant TLA Altamira and its Chilean equivalent GNL Quintero.
