Misys wins $17.6 mln U.S. healthcare deal
LONDON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - British software group Misys Plc said on Wednesday it has won its largest ever contract, worth $17.6 million, to supply healthcare
software to Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
Misys, which supplies software to banks, insurers and healthcare companies, will supply seven hospitals with a
range of software including the Misys Laboratory information system and Misys Clinical Event Manager.
L.A. County Department of Health Services is the second largest public health system in the United States.
``The medical need for more efficient delivery systems, coupled with government and industry initiatives to
improve patient care, means that hospitals and physicians will have to make ongoing investments in their systems
infrastructure over the next few years,`` Misys Chairman Kevin Lomax said in a statement.
Separately, Misys said it was bringing together three healthcare units -- Medic, HCIS and Sunquest -- to create
Misys Healthcare Systems.
Misys Healthcare Systems will be managed by Tom Skelton, currently chief executive of Medic, and will
employ approximately 2,500 people across the United States.
The healthcare contract win follows Misys`s announcement on Tuesday that it had signed an agreement with three leading life and pensions providers to develop its
AssureWeb electronic trading platform for independent financial advisers (IFAs).
Shares in Misys closed on Tuesday at 321-1/2 pence, up 0.94 percent and valuing the firm at just over 1.85 billion pounds ($2.64 billion).
