Antofagasta said it delivered a "strong finish" to 2016 with a significant step-up in production amidst lower cash costs. The Chilean miner said copper production in 2016 was 13% higher year-on-year at 709,400 tonnes versus 630,300 tonnes. Copper sales rose 9.8% to 698,500 tonnes from 636,000 tonnes the year before. Gold production in 2016 was 27% higher than in 2015 at 270,900 ounces versus 213,900 ounces, but molybdenum production was 30% lower year-on-year at 7,100 ounces from 10,100 ounces. Net cash costs were 20% lower in 2016, averaging USD1.20 per pound of copper compared to USD1.50 per pound in 2015
