Cubic Awarded $1.8 Million Contract For Joint STARS Air Data Terminal

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Mar 12, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cubic Defense Systems, a
subsidiary of San Diego-based Cubic Corp. (AMEX: CUB), has been awarded a $1.8
million contract from Northrop Grumman to provide an Air Data Terminal and spare
equipment for the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS).

From a standoff position, Joint STARS detects, locates, classifies, tracks and
targets hostile ground movements, communicating real-time information through
secure data links with U.S. Air Force and Army command posts. Air Data Terminals
(ADTs) are one component of Cubic`s Joint STARS data link used to broadcast
images and moving target information from the U.S. Air Force E-8C Joint STARS
reconnaissance aircraft to U.S. Army ground stations equipped with Cubic-built
Ground Data Terminals.

The new ADT will be included in a lot shipment scheduled for delivery to
Northrop Grumman in the summer of 2003. Cubic will deliver spare equipment
concurrently.

Cubic announced the new contract as the company gets ready to deliver a
previously ordered ADT to Northrop Grumman.

"With this latest contract, the Joint STARS data link has generated close to
$220 million for Cubic. It is a result of the Department of Defense`s continued
investment in the Joint STARS program," said David S. Miller, program manager
for Cubic`s Joint STARS data link.

Cubic Defense Systems is part of the Cubic Defense Applications Group, which
provides instrumented air and ground combat training systems, battle command
training simulations, and simulation support for U.S. and allied military
forces. The group also produces high technology avionics, data links and
communications products for government and commercial customers and provides a
wide range of technical and logistics services. For more information about
