...Tesla is looking to sell its second ever US dollar auto asset-backed bond deal, a US$837.39m trade that will be rated by Moody's, according to a lead bank.

The electric carmaker plans to bundle up auto leases into a five-part bond deal that is expected to be announced later this week.

The deal will mark only the second time that Tesla has looked to raise funding in the ABS market by selling bonds backed by consumer leases on its electric vehicles.

The first such deal was a popular US$546m trade that priced in February. It attracted almost US$4bn of orders, and bankers were able to pull in pricing from initial levels.

The new bonds have longer maturities, however, and Tesla expects to pay more for them.

Its biggest US$673.68m block is a 1.49-year Triple A class that has been circulated at talk in the 90bp-100bp area over EDSF, according to two investors.

Its Triple As from the February securitization were a 0.84-year slug of bonds that priced at 30bp over EDSF, according to IFR data.

Tesla also has one junk bond outstanding, but that has struggled in secondary trading. The 5.3% 2025 high-yield issue was bid on Monday at a cash price of about 86.9, according to a broker dealer.

The bonds priced at par in August 2017, according to IFR data.
