'As Greenbushes note iron oxide trapped in the lattice of spodumene can not be removed. But introduced iron oxide can. Some say there are ways to remove iron oxide from the spodumene crystals but as we’ve read recently coming from Tianqi…………. “The devil is in the detail” '

Good morning all ,

@Deboss - your post above is my post of the week thus far, and I'd urge everyone who is involved in Lithium stock investing (i.e. not just AVZ holders) to read or re-read this and also @tendoji 's posts over on the PLS thread eg. https://hotcopper.com.au/posts/40029820/single - as the information they have highlighted is critical in determining likely economic outcomes.

As Greenbushes have noted, the devil is in the detail, and Deboss and tendoji have highlighted the 'devil' that the majority of WA 'spoducers' (made that word up via a typo ) and SC developers appear to be reluctant to share with their investors.

As part of my conversation with NF a few weeks back, I asked whether AVZ will likely be able to produce technical grade spodumene, and he confirmed exactly what Greenbushes have noted - and that is any 'iron oxide trapped in the lattice of spodumene cannot be removed'.

Deboss is also correct in saying that introduced iron oxide can easily be removed, and thus part of the purpose of the current Met tests is to determine whether the majority of Iron oxide content (so far reported) is locked up in the spodumene crystals or not.

If the spod crystals from Manono contain extremely low levels of Iron oxide then AVZ will likely be able to produce Tech grade spod that is similar to Greenbushes (which as you know commands a much higher price per tonne than chemical grade). However if the Iron Oxide present in the crystals is too high for tech grade, then that is also fine from a production and investment perspective, as Manono has relatively low impurities as is (including iron oxide) and so AVZ can solely focus on producing Tier 1 battery quality concentrate (which btw does not equal Tier 2 or Tier 3 as some 'know it all's' would have you believe).

GLTA

Cheers
Elpha
