Cubic Wins $9.8 M Common Ground Station/Joint Tactical Terminal -CGS/JTT- Contract from U.S. Army; Cubic`s Data Link Technology Key to Program Since 1993

SAN DIEGO, Apr 16, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The U.S. Army`s
Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) has awarded the defense unit of Cubic
Corp. (AMEX: CUB) a $9.8 million contract for 10 additional Ground Data
Terminals, part of the Army`s CGS/JTT System and used with the Joint
Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) program.

Between July 2003 through November 2003, Cubic will deliver 10 additional Ground
Data Terminals (GDTs) to CECOM in increments of two per month. This contract
brings the total amount awarded under the program to Cubic, since its first
Joint Stars contract in 1993, to about $202 million.

"This recent order, and the overall success of the Cubic Data Link product
validates not only the importance of our technology and the JSTARS platform to
past and current U.S. operations, but the dedication of those associated with
the program these past 9 years," said Rick Lober, Senior Vice President,
Communications for Cubic`s Defense Applications group.

Joint STARS is a joint Army and Air Force program that transmits command and
control data from Air Force surveillance aircraft to United States and Allied
commanders on the ground. The Cubic-built data link, one of the key elements of
Joint STARS, is a jam-resistant radio communications system that allows radar
images and moving target indications to be broadcast from aircraft to multiple
ground stations, allowing simultaneous communication with multiple ground
support units.

"CECOM`s decision to order the additional Ground Data Terminals is validation of
the superior quality of our GDTs and our data link technology," said David S.
Miller, Joint STARS program manager at Cubic`s Defense Applications group.

The Army can deploy a number of already-delivered Cubic GDTs in the Middle East
for potential use in Operation Enduring Freedom. To date, the Army has ordered
nine lots of GDTs for the Army CGS/JTT program, which, along with the Air Force
Air Data Terminals, (ADTs) are the key components of Cubic`s Joint STARS data
link.

Cubic`s Defense Applications group produces instrumented air and ground combat
training systems, battle command training, simulations and simulation support
for U.S. and allied military forces. The group also produces high technology
avionics, data links and communications products for government and commercial
customers, and a wide range of technical and logistics services. Cubic Corp.`s
other major business segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and
manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit
authorities. Visit Cubic on the Web at http://www.cubic.com./
