Mexican peso slides 6.45 ctvs as Brazil`s real tumbles Reuters, 10.09.02, 10:05 AM ET MEXICO CITY, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Mexico`s peso currency was down 6.45 centavos against the dollar in early trade on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of the Brazilian real, which was down 3.6 percent. Mexico`s benchmark 48-hour peso <MEX01> was down to 10.1970/10.2070, pushed down also by falling U.S. markets. The Brazilian real was down to 3.840 per U.S. dollar, compared to a close of 3.730/dollar on Tuesday`s close. Brazil`s currency fell sharply early on Wednesday as investors fretted over whether the Central Bank would be able to roll over a hefty chunk of domestic debt coming due next week. On Tuesday, the Central Bank managed to sell $600 million in dollar-linked debt, only 16 percent of a total of $3.67 billion in paper maturing on Oct. 17. The bank hasn`t scheduled a separate auction yet for Wednesday, leaving some market watchers concerned that it may be forced to buy back a large portion of the debt next week.
