Apr. 14, 2000 (InformationWeek - CMP via COMTEX) -- Essential Markets.com Inc. has introduced a service that may help small suppliers get noticed by large companies within online marketplaces. The service, called Essential Procurement, was developed in cooperation with Ariba, Clarus, and Commerce One, which host marketplaces or provide the technologies for creating them. Essential Markets is aiming the service at companies with annual revenue of $25 million to $50 million. The vendor converts clients` product information into searchable data formatted with the Extensible Markup Language, and presents details on specific suppliers to larger companies that conduct a search within a marketplace. "Most large companies have 5,000 to 10,000 small-business suppliers that aren`t connected to their E-procurement platforms," says Todd Ostrander, president and CEO of Essential Markets. "This will provide larger corporations with a more convenient way to reach a major part of their supply base." The service is part of a broader group of hosted services and technologies that the vendor recently made available to small suppliers. Essential Markets also offers Internet access services and digital subscriber line connectivity, and it will host E-commerce Web sites for small suppliers that include links to marketplaces. Small-business suppliers will also have access to a regional Essential Markets consultant who can provide contracted IT services. Heather Ashton, a senior analyst at Hurwitz Group, says that although some vendors have provided similar marketplace-access services to large suppliers, Essential Markets` focus on small companies is unique. The services will be available through the vendor`s Web site by the end of this month, starting at less than $1,000 per month. |
