The investment forms part of a $1.5 million capital raising by SmartNews. ECL will also receive 1.67 million free options exercisable at 20 cents each on or before 30 June 2002. ECL`s shareholding will represent approximately 10% of Smart News` expanded issued capital after the placement but before the exercise any of options. SmartNews has been developed as a business model for proactively communicating to a large number of people in a quick, user-friendly, cheap and proactive manner via email and Internet technology. In an era of information overload, SmartNews has created a system to either replace or be an adjunct to traditional communications from business to consumers and, potentially, business to business.
