(Nasdaq: MYGN) announced today that it has been awarded patent number 6,060,301 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent covers the p10 gene, which may provide the basis for the development of products to diagnose and treat many common cancers. The p10 gene is a member of a small family of very important tumor suppressor genes that are mutated in a large percentage of cancers. Mutations in the p10 gene have been found in human cancers such as melanoma, leukemia, lymphoma and prostate cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer, stomach cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and testicular cancer.
