I was pleased to see some talk about product lines being -- you know, focusing on flex fuel, for example. The idea of a car being able to use gasoline, hydrocarbon-base fuel and/or fuel, but coming out of -- whether it be corn or waste. And one of the things I`m going to talk about in the State of the Union is the need for this country to continue to promote technology in order for us to diversify away from hydrocarbon.

WSJ: The Brazil example.

Mr. Bush: Well, and I was very impressed down there about the fact that, first of all, a lot of the fuel being manufactured in Brazil is from sugar, and that GM-manufactured products are flex fuel products. There`s other technologies we can use, as well. And so as these automobile manufacturers compete for market share and use technology to try to get consumers to buy their product, they also will be helping America become less dependent on foreign sources of oil. So this is an interesting moment in the evolution of the automobile, and for these car companies trying to stay competitive.

Ethanol ist als alternativer Kraftstoff sehr interessant:

1)Gerade der Flächenstaat USA mit Land- und Forstwirtschaft und hohem Benzinverbrauch ist dafür geradezu prädesteniert.

2)Es gibt schon zahlreiche Modelle, die E85-fähig sind ( http://www.e85fuel.com/e85101/flexfuelvehicles.php )

3)Man wird unabhängiger vom Öl. Es gibt politische Unterstützung von aller höchsten Stellen in den USA (siehe Bush-Interview).

4)Ethanol ist billiger als Benzin.

5) Ethanol muß jetzt schon in 12 Bundesstaaten dem Kraftstoff beigemischt werden um die Abgaswerte zu verbessern.

GM Launches Ethanol Campaign

Washington, DC [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] "Live Green Go Yellow" is the national campaign slogan from General Motors to build awareness among consumers, energy producers and policy makers for ethanol/gasoline-blended fuel (E85). More than 1.5 million GM vehicles on the market today already have E85 capability -- and in 2006, GM will offer nine E85 FlexFuel models, bringing an additional 400,000 E85 FlexFuel vehicles into its fleet.

"With the ongoing concern over national energy policy, the need to have more renewable fuel choices such as ethanol blended fuels is a great energy option available today," said Brent Dewar, GM vice president of marketing and advertising. Beginning Feb. 8, our campaign will drive people to an E85 website, LiveGreenGoYellow.com, that will help consumers to be better informed of the benefits of ethanol," said Bob Kraut, director, GM Brand Marketing & Advertising Operations.

"The website has many fun and engaging tools, such as the GM Cornulator that calculates the amount of petroleum saved with E85," Kraut added.
