Diese sollen in neue Technologien investiert werden und mit diesen dann das Millitär ausgerüstet werden. Einer der Profiteure könnte METALSTROM sein.METALSTORM arbeitet eng mit dem australischen und US-amerikanischen Verteidigungsminsterium zusammen. Am 2 Dez. 2005 bekam man einen Auftrag vom US Verteidigungsministerium für eine Antipersonenwafee die ferngesteuert bedient werden kann.

Eine Million Schuss pro Minute



Mit Hilfe einer neuen Waffentechnologie kann eine australische Firma einen wahren «Eisensturm» entfesseln. Sie hofft auf Aufträge der US-Armee.

Die Firma heißt «Metal Storm» (Eisensturm) und dieser Name ist Ernst gemeint. Das australische Unternehmen hat eine Waffentechnik entwickelt, die im Vergleich dazu ein gewöhnliches Maschinengewehr wie Pfeil und Bogen aussehen lässt.

Bei der neuen Technik werden nicht mehr Patronen in einen Lauf geschoben und per Schlagbolzen gezündet und abgefeuert. Der Lauf ist nun gleichzeitig das Magazin – die Projektile liegen aufgereiht in der Röhre, die Treibladung befindet sich zwischen ihnen und wird per elektrischem Impuls gezündet. Als Treibladung diene normales Pulver, lediglich die Projektile seien neu entwickelt – über deren Aufbau und Zusammensetzung schweigt man.

Keine mechanischen Teile

Ausgedacht hat sich die neue ballistische Technologie der Australier Mike O`Dwyer aus einer kleinen Stadt in Queensland. Der Vorteil: Es gibt keine beweglichen Teile und keine Mechanik. Das Einzige, was sich bewegt, sind die Projektile.



Eine Röhre kann als Handfeuerwaffe dienen, beliebig viele zusammengebaut zu einem Waffensystem erreichen eine Feuerkraft, die apokalyptisch anmutet: ein Prototyp mit 36 solcher Rohre kann theoretisch eine Million Schuss in der Minute abgeben.

Damit lässt sich eine Feuerwand entfesseln, die anfliegende Raketen oder fahrenden Konvois in Sekundenbruchteilen vernichtet. Ein Granatwerfer mit dieser Technologie bedeutet die gleiche kaum überwindliche Barriere wie ein Minenfeld. Jede Bewegung in seinem programmierten Zielbereich ist tödlich.

Die bisher gewaltigsten mechanischen Waffen, so genannte Gatling-Maschinenkanonen, bei denen mehrere Läufe mit hoher Geschwindigkeit vor dem Magazin vorbeigedreht werden, schaffen nur einen Bruchteil davon. Die in amerikanischen Flugzeugen verwendete M61 Vulcan zum Beispiel hat eine theoretische Feuergeschwindigkeit von 4000 bis 6000 Schuss pro Minute.

Töten per Computer

Dazu kommt, dass die neue Waffe leichter und billiger ist als herkömmliche, und dass sie aufgrund ihrer elektrischen Steuerung problemlos mit Computern verbunden und mit deren Hilfe bedient werden kann. «Weil es elektronisch ist, kann es an andere elektronische Systeme angeschlossen werden, die ihm sagen, was es tun soll. Man braucht dazu keine Menschen», sagte Ian Gillespie, der Geschäftsführer von Metal Storm laut dem Magazin «Wired».

Das Metal-Storm-Monstrum ist inzwischen vom Guinness-Buch der Rekorde offiziell als schnellste Waffe der Welt anerkannt. Nächstes Ziel der Hersteller ist es, sie an den größten existierenden Kunden der Welt zu verkaufen, an die amerikanische Armee. Erste Vorstellungen gab es bereits und Mitte des Jahres will man der US-Armee demonstrieren, dass sich mit dem System auch unbemannte Drohnen bewaffnen lassen. Gemeinsam mit der australischen Armee investierte das Pentagon bereits 60 Millionen Dollar für die Entwicklung. Angesichts der andauernden Kämpfe in Irak hoffe man bei Metal Storm auf schnelle Aufträge, so «Wired».



Auch einen zweiten Markt möchte man besetzen, den der Polizeiwaffen. Dazu wurde eine Pistolen-Variante entwickelt, die nicht nur vier solcher Röhren mit je sechs bis sieben Schuss enthält, sondern auch sprechen, funken und ihren Besitzer identifizieren kann. Aktiviert werden kann sie nur per eingespeichertem Fingerabdruck und wird daher mit dem euphemistischen Begriff «safe weapon» bezeichnet, sichere Waffe.

In mehreren Sprachen könne sie sowohl denjenigen vor, als auch den hinter der Waffe warnen und informieren, so der Hersteller. Auch funke sie ihren Standort an ein Polizeirevier, sobald sie verloren gehe. «Variable Lethality Enforcement (VLE)» nennt Metal Storm seine Entwicklung, variabler tödlicher Vollzug. Auch dies hat das Guinness-Buch offensichtlich beeindruckt, sie wird dort als intelligenteste Feuerwaffe geführt.

Das dank der neuen Technik lediglich das Töten viel effektiver werde, findet Geschäftsführer Gillespie nicht. «Es ist eine Technologie, die sehr viel mehr Leben retten kann, denn es ist eine Technologie, mit Hilfe derer unsere Streitkräfte uns gegen Bedrohungen beschützen. Wir entwickeln keine offensiven Möglichkeiten ... wenn unsere Menschen gezwungen sind, sich selbst zu verteidigen, wollen wir, dass sie dazu die beste Technik haben.»

Bisher befinden sich diese Waffen noch im Entwicklungsstadium, verkauft werden sie noch nicht. (nz)

Metal Storm Wins US Funding for Munitions Development

ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Defense technology company Metal Storm Limited (Nachrichten) today announced that its subsidiary Metal Storm, Inc had been awarded a two year contract worth approximately A$975,000 from the US Army`s Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) for the design, prototyping and demonstration of Metal Storm less-than-lethal munitions. The company had advised the market on 21 November 2005 that this contract was expected.

Under the Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract, Metal Storm will design and build prototype less-than-lethal munitions for demonstration to ARDEC of a range of crowd-control options. These munitions will be compatible with the Metal Storm 40mm launcher technology. Incorporated into the munitions will be " smart-round" capabilities, providing an improved level of safety and flexibility in the less-than-lethal spectrum of operations. The project effort, entitled " Metal Storm Crowd Control System," will extend over a 2 year period.

" The confirmation of this Phase II SBIR contract is very timely as much of our current engineering efforts are directly focused on the final development of our High Explosive (HE) munitions. Being able to expand our current efforts into specific less-lethal capabilities will fit nicely with our 2006 strategic plans," said Metal Storm`s Chief Executive Officer, David Smith.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program is a Congressionally-mandated program which was established in 1982 (with subsequent reauthorizations in 1986, 1992, and 2000 until 2008) to increase the participation of small businesses in federal research and development (R&D).

The goal of the dual-use SBIR Program is to tap into the innovativeness and creativity of the small business community to help meet government R&D objectives. At the same time, these small companies develop technologies, products, and services which they can then commercialize through sales in the private sector or back to the government.

Three-Phase Process

The SBIR Program conducts a project, if successful, through three phases. Proposals submitted in response to the solicitation topics are competitively selected for Phase I awards. Note that Phase I is the entry point to the program; it cannot be bypassed. Phase I proposals must respond to a specific topic in the solicitation; the SBIR Program does not accept unsolicited proposals.

Singapore - I am writing to you from Singapore where your company is exhibiting some of its 40mm weapons systems together with its teaming partners, Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics) and Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited (EOS) at the Asian Aerospace and Defence Technologies Exhibition.

We have several systems on display, including:
# the RedbackTM light weight/high speed weapon system which was unveiled on Tuesday..
# two new weapon concepts:
o the “3GL” three shot grenade launcher designed for attachment to assault rifles; and
o a hybrid weapon which combines 4 Metal Storm barrels with an ST Kinetics 40mm grenade machine gun mounted in a remotely controlled weapons station.

More detail and photographs are included later in this update.

Since my last update in November 2005 the company has seen a number of positive developments announced:

# A Phase II SBIR contract award from the US Navy for the research and development of a remotely operated active protection system based on our 40mm platform worth approximately A$1.32 million.
# A Phase II SBIR contract award from the US Army for the development and testing of less-lethal munitions for a Crowd Control System worth approximately A$975,000.
# Appointment to the Metal Storm board of Dr Peter Jonson as a non-executive director.
# The successful test firing of High Explosive, Enhanced Blast and Airburst munitions in collaboration with ST Kinetics.
# Unveiling of the RedbackTM Weapon System prototype which has been developed in collaboration with ST Kinetics and EOS.

As part of this CEO Corner, I want to bring you up to date on our ongoing projects and give you more detail on the munitions developments we are engaged in with world-leading munitions developers ST Kinetics in Singapore and the US Army Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) in the US.

Munitions Development

We have two parallel efforts that are focused on developing a range of munitions for use with Metal Storm 40mm weapons in collaboration with–ST Kinetics and ARDEC.

Our strategy is to take commercially available off-the-shelf munitions that have been certified for military use and convert them to Metal Storm configuration. This is aimed at achieving two important goals:

# first, to ensure we have munitions that match the customers established logistics systems, and
# second, to minimise the amount of time and cost involved in getting the munitions certified for use in the field. The processes for the testing and certification of munitions, particularly for the US market, are rigorous and complex.
By using existing certified warheads and attaching Metal Storm tailpieces that replace the conventional shell casing we aim to reduce the number of steps required to achieve certification of the new Metal Storm munition type.
This does not rule out the development of completely new munitions as well, but clearly these will take longer to get to market. Hence our current focus on converting existing munitions.

In Singapore last week we successfully fired converted ST Kinetics munitions with standard High Explosive warheads. We also fired Enhanced Blast and programmable Airburst rounds from the ST Kinetics munitions stable. This was done using a specially developed Metal Storm tailpiece containing the propellant load, electronically initiated primer and inductive ignition components. The firings successfully demonstrated our ability to fire these off-the-shelf, full scale, explosive warheads.

In the US, in collaboration with ARDEC, the initial phases of testing are in progress on the development of a range of munitions to be converted from existing US certified munitions, including High Explosive and other types of warhead as well as less-lethal rounds. Test firings are proceeding according to plan and results will be published in due course, including arrangements for the planned US demonstrations.

We want to be able to offer customers a variety of choices in the munitions they can use in our weapons systems. This is critical for us to exploit the versatility and competitive advantages of our weapons.

There is more work to be done in both these munitions development projects but, all in all, I am delighted with the progress we are making and I am looking forward to keeping you updated as we continue on.

RedbackTM

The unveiling of the RedbackTM Weapons System in collaboration with EOS is a major step forward for Metal Storm. The system is designed around Metal Storm’s 40mm weapon system and EOS’ combat-proven targeting and fire control system (currently being deployed in Iraq in the highly successful ‘CROWS’ remotely operated weapon station.) RedbackTM is already capable of firing converted off-the-shelf ST Kinetics 40mm High Explosive and Airburst munitions.

This weapon system is designed to be very light and very fast, and to fulfil a number of urgent operational requirements which rely upon intense directed firepower for short periods.

A lot of engineering development and fine tuning has gone into the design and build of the Metal Storm components of RedbackTM. They are not the same as those used in the Talon firings last year.

I believe that RedbackTM provides us with an outstanding opportunity to get Metal Storm product into the battlefield and prove the value of its unique capabilities. Together with EOS we are putting every effort into realising this objective in the shortest possible time frame.

Feedback from visitors to the exhibition in Singapore this week has been very positive and we have received a number of enquiries from military customers interested in a variety of potential applications and specifications to suit their purposes. This is the outcome we were looking for from the exhibition.

3GL

The “3GL” grenade launcher which is also being shown at the Asian Aerospace and Defence Technologies Exhibition in Singapore this week is a concept weapon designed to compete with the M203 grenade launcher currently in wide use by law enforcement agencies and military forces around the world.

The weapon is designed to hold up to 3 low velocity 40mm grenades that can be fired in quick succession without the firer taking his eyes off the target. We believe the significant increase in firepower this offers will provide a very significant capability advantage in certain situations.

The design also allows for grenade rounds to be loaded one at a time such that the weapon can be loaded with 1, 2, or 3 rounds depending on the operators requirements, and can be loaded or re-loaded a round at a time. This will provide a lot of versatility to the user as well as significantly increased firepower compared to the M203.

There is more work required to fine-tune the barrel design and make it production ready, including a rigorous testing program, but we believe this can be done relatively quickly. The weapon will be able to fire the ST Kinetics low velocity 40mm HE and Enhance Blast rounds that were successfully test fired from our multi-barrel guns last week.

Active Protection System

The US Navy Phase II SBIR contract award which commenced in December 2005 requires us to develop a remotely controlled active protection system that can be mounted on various Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs). This is an excellent opportunity to display just how suitable our weapon system is for the “Electronic Battlefield” where virtually everything is remotely controlled while utilising the “Man in the Loop” concept.

Whilst we have up to two years to complete the contract we have set ourselves an objective to have it finished much earlier if possible. The system design is based around our existing 40mm weapons system platform and will benefit from all the development and engineering work we are doing elsewhere as well as the munitions development I have already talked about.

Metal Storm Crowd Control

The US Army Phase II SBIR contract award which began in January 2006 calls for the development and testing of a crowd control system using Metal Storm 40mm weapons with less-lethal munitions. Law enforcement agencies and military forces are in great need of less-lethal capabilities and this is an excellent opportunity where we can demonstrate the versatility and functionality of Metal Storm’s technology in both military and non-military applications. It also allows us to begin to develop a line of specialised less-lethal munitions for the US Army.

Department of Energy (DOE)

The DOE contract which commenced in October 2005 is well underway and the Engineering Team is in the process of designing and computer modelling the specific weapon system that will be used to meet the stringent requirements of this customer. We have also conducted the first design review, which went very well, and we have received customer authorisation to proceed on to the next phase of the contract.

Dragonfly Pictures

As reported in my last CEO Corner, the UAV demonstration has been subject to delays at the Prime Contract level. Metal Storm is performing on a subcontract to Dragonfly Pictures, Inc. The delays are not the responsibility of Metal Storm and relate to issues outside of our control as subcontractor. Metal Storm stands ready to complete its subcontract with DragonflyDue to the importance of accomplishing this evolution, Metal Storm has investigated using other available air platforms provided by other partners. We will continue to review our position and will act on the best outcome for the company.

Other matters

I would like to cover a number of other matters that require comment or update:

# Focus on Low Velocity Systems

A number of people have asked me why we are focusing on just low velocity systems and if this means that Metal Storm technology cannot cope with high velocity munitions.

The answer to this is simple. We can use our technology for both low velocity and high velocity. The ADWS weapon which was demonstrated in Australia in July last year was a high velocity weapon. We have chosen to focus on low velocity first because we believe it represents the best market opportunity for the introduction of our technology.

Our ability to provide low weight, compact, digitally controlled weapons is particularly suited to small robotic platforms where low velocity weapons are required. Low velocity 40mm weapons are also best suited to urban warfare applications where low weight, mobile systems, and the reduced risk of collateral damage are important. We are focusing on the market segments where we believe the demand exists and where we have competitive advantages to give ourselves the best opportunity for success.

We do have high velocity weapons in our strategic plan and we will pursue those plans in due course.

# StarchaseTM

There has recently been some publicity regarding the ‘StarchaseTM’ vehicle tagging and tracking technology being developed by an independent company in the US.

Metal Storm has contributed to the current design of the launching system and there is potential to utilise Metal Storm technology in future designs if a commercial agreement is reached with StarchaseTM. We are currently in negotiations with StarchaseTM and we will advise the outcome if and when the negotiations result in an agreement.

# New Work

We have submitted a number of new proposals for projects that fall within our area of strategic focus. These are in both military and non-military areas and will be advised as and when they are settled.

I am very pleased with our progress and I believe 2006 will be a pivotal year for our company.

Mehr als 5000-6000e würde ich nicht investieren in diesen Wert.

Also somit sein Risiko minimieren!

Das Unternehmen hat sehr gute Waffen im Angebot und wenn das US verteidigungsminesterium nur eine davon nutzen will dann geht die Aktie durch die Decke.

Aber auf der anderen Seite werden im Moment keinerlei Gewinne gemacht und man muss weiter einiges in die Forschung investieren, so das die Kohle die sie haben erstmal bis September 2006 reicht! Dann müsste man nochmals den Kapitalmarkt anzapfen. Das sollte aber kein Problem darstellen würde nur die Aktienanzahl nochmals verwässern!

Bin mir sicher das die Produkte ihren Abnehmer finden den die Amis sind heiß drauf in Kriesenherden mit kleinen Grupen zu operarieren und dafür sind die Technologien einfach genial und die man hätte Systeme die es auch kleinen Gruppen ermöglichen größere Gegner auszulöschen.

Man muss frühzeitig Chancen erkennen und kaufen und nicht erst wenn es der Markt macht.

Der Wert ist soweiso nur was für Leute die gut streuen und es sich erlauben können auch Werte längerfristig mal liegen zu lassen ohne sofort Geld zu verdienen.

Aber auch nur diese Leute sind langfristig die Gewinner an der Börse. Denn die Zocker verlieren mehr als das sie gewinnen

Hab etwas weniger Stücke als Du, genau 30K.

Also liegen wir mit dem investierten Betrag ungefähr gleich.

Teile auch Deine Auffasung, daß man mit mehr nicht reingehen sollte.

Werde hier aber auch bei 100%-Anstieg nicht rausgehen, weil, es könnte wirklich Blockbuster-Potential drinstecken.

Bestes Beispiel war letztens die Aktie von Dyesol!
Von 0,15 bis auf 1,60 !

Wer da bei 0,30 schon ausgestiegen ist, hat ne Menge Geld liegengelassen!

Aber soweit sind wir hier noch lange nicht.

MetalStorm hat sehr gute Veraussetzungen durch die Contracts mit den AMis das sie dieses Jahr den Durchbruch schaffen!

Wie gesagt kommt es zur Produktion dann sind Kurse über 1€ fällig!

bei so einem wert muss man ein wenig Zeit mitbringen! Aber die Technologie die sie haben ist sehr gut! und Waffen in der heutigen Zeit die mobiler einsetzbar sind werden nachgefragt!

Man geht weg von großen Armeen auf kleine operierende Gruppen mit 6-10 Mann Stärke

Gemäss folgendem Posting soll nächstens eine Kapitalerhöhung anstehen. Dies würde die bestehenden Aktien 25-35% verbilligen, wäre also für bestehende Aktionäre schmerzlich, falls sie bei der Erhöhung nicht mitmachen könnten (was in den USA scheinbar möglich ist).
