Amazon's Entering the Film Festival Business

Amazon.com (AMZN), the leading online retailer of books is getting into the film festival business. Amazon's subsidiary, the Internet Movie Database [IMDb.com], is acquiring Withoutabox [withoutabox.com]. Most independent filmmakers and all film festival producers are very familiar with Withoutabox, a top online resource for filmmakers to find film festivals in a simple and streamlined process for distributing their productions. [Authors note: I've used it in the past and was very happy with its services.]
100,000 filmmakers in over 200 countries utilize its service.
The connection with Amazon should increase the distribution options for the filmmakers, and will benefit Amazon by giving it another significant product line. Withoutabox is now looking for other forms of media to encompass in its business besides films.
