Software AG and SCO to Deliver the World`s First XML Database Solution for UnixWare 7
      Monday, March 27, 2000 09:09 AM

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000--Software AG and SCO (Nasdaq:SCOC, news, msgs) today announced a joint initiative to deliver a cutting-edge XML database solution for e-businesses currently operating in the UNIX environment.
The solution, based on Software AG`s Tamino and SCO`s award-winning UnixWare 7 operating system, will provide customers with a complete solution for developing, managing and publishing XML applications to a wide variety of electronic business applications. This integrated solution will be preconfigured and tailored for delivery through SCO and Software AG partners.

"SCO is extremely pleased to team up with Software AG to deliver this hot, new solution to the e-Business market," said Mike Orr, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, SCO. "Software AG`s expertise in producing mission-critical database technology, combined with the reliability and power of UnixWare 7, clearly places this enterprise-level XML solution in the leader`s category."

"SCO and Software AG will deliver a powerful database system to their partners, enabling them to develop and deploy effective electronic business solutions," said Dr. Helmut Wilke, president and CEO of Software AG Inc., Walnut Creek, Calif., Software AG`s new American subsidiary. "UnixWare 7 is a robust operating system that is a perfect fit with Tamino. We are very excited to be working with SCO to bring the leading price/performance solution to our customers."

The rapid growth in Web applications such as electronic commerce, Web portals, knowledge management and customer relationship management is fueling demand for XML applications. Software AG`s product, Tamino, the world`s fastest and first native XML server, is the ideal server for XML information because it can store, integrate and exchange data directly in XML native format. Tamino guarantees high performance and scalability since no extra layer is needed for data conversion to and from XML.

With this initiative, the scope and breadth of XML applications based on UnixWare 7 will be expanded to enterprises of all sizes.

Software AG and SCO plan to have the joint solution in the marketplace during the third quarter of 2000.
