MfG

Hallo AMDler,
was denkt ihr über Dell-AMD announcement morgen?
http://today.reuters.com/business/newsarticle.aspx?type=ousi…
Dell to disclose "pricing initiative" on Thursday
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Dell Inc. (DELL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to announce a pricing initiative on Thursday that a company spokesman said would make it easier for consumers and small businesses to do business with the company.
"What we'll announce on Thursday will be a part of what we've already been talking about in terms of improving the experience customers have in buying from Dell," said Dell spokesman Mike Maher on Tuesday.
In recent quarters, the profitability of Dell's U.S. consumer business has declined as rivals such as Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ.N: Quote, Profile, Research) have offered lower prices thanks to cheaper components and more efficient manufacturing.
"It certainly is no secret that Dell has not done very well in the consumer PC market and has struggled there from a margin standpoint," said Pacific Crest Securities analyst Brent Bracelin.
Bracelin said the Thursday announcement could include price cuts or some other strategy to improve its consumer and small business segment.
"They're keeping their cards close to the vest," he said.
Dell's operating margin in its consumer and small-business markets in the Americas has declined in the past four quarters, Bracelin said. Dell's consumer and small business sales account for about 15 percent of its overall revenue.
Dell said in a media alert issued on Monday that Ro Parra, head of Dell's home and small business group, would lead a conference call at Noon Eastern Standard Time and would issue a news release ahead of the call.
"The news will impact consumers and small business in the United States who purchase products and services from Dell," the company said in a statement.

@Buggi

Eher so:
"AMD delivers ultimate CPU"
A new breakthough in process and design now enables AMD to offers CPUs with zero power and infinent performance on demand.
AMD shares dropped 5% due to analyst concerns that AMD's abilility to innovate is at an end.

"ICC 9.1 has autoparallelization.
http://www.intel.com/cd/software/products/asmo-na/eng/compil…
It's also covered in an article in latest issue of the c't magazine. I
think, the SPEC submitters just didn't use it, but instead submitted
a lot of scores with 2 cores enabled but "Parallel: No" because the
max. 4 MB of L2 gives more of a benefit than the autoparallelization
(in the latter case according to c't about 6% in SPECfp_base on a
Woodcrest System with only 2 cores used)."

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 22.538.860 von neubiene^^^^ am 12.07.06 11:05:59"SpecFP2000 score is accomplished with auto-parallelizing compiler.
Some would say it is cheating. SpecFP should be run on 1 core only, to
my thinking, for all submissions. SpecFP_rate, okay, whatever you
want. But not the core speed tests."
"So is Intel cheating using a shared cache in its submissions?
Just because Intel doesn't have autoparallelization in its
compiler, then all others that do are cheating? Then you should
also bend Intel's ear on its use of PGO, internal vectorization,
index swapping, code substitution and all of the other "cheats" it
uses.
No complaints from you on all of those Intel based cheats. Are
vector based computers cheating too? They have multiple cores to do
processing of vectors and matricies in parallel. Their compilers
also do autoparallelization."
