The Singapore Minister for Communications and Information Technology has announced that Davnet Limited (DVT) has been awarded a provisional facilities-based operator licence (FBO), for the new subsidiary, Davnet Singapore Pte Ltd. The licence will take effect from 1 April 2000. From this date Davnet Singapore will be able to provide IP based services to Singapore`s Corporate CBD tenants. DVT will offer customers bandwidth ranging from 64 kbps to 1,000 Mbps for voice, data, Internet access, data back-up and videoconferencing through the one digital socket.
DVT`s Managing Director and CEO, Stephen Moignard, said today that this development was a significant step in the company`s global expansion.

telecommunications authority, has issued the full FBO licence,
signifying that such details as negotiation`s on roll-out schedules,
coverage and performance miles stones have been completed.
The provisional licence was issued in March. The full licence is
valid for 15 years and may be renewed thereafter.
The FBO licence enables Davnet to provide IP based innovative
services to corporate tenants in Singapore`s Central Business
District. Tenants will be offered large bandwidth (from 64 kbps to
100 mbps, symmetrical) for Internet access, IP-Virtual Private
Network (IP-VPN) which is a private data network that makes use of
public telecommunication infrastructure, bandwidth-on-demand, web
hosting and e-mail.
Davnet Singapore has inspected more than 30 prime commercial
buildings since March, and has obtained "approval to construct" in
four prime commercial buildings involving a total gross floor area of
2.1 million square feet. Davnet Singapore also expects to complete
its first point-of-presence (CorePOP) by the end of September. The
first In-building Ethernet Internet accessed services should be
launched by or before the end of October.

Davnet Limited subsidiary, QAI Australia Ltd, announced the opening of a new
specialised call centre called Salesworx in Hobart. Salesworx is already on its
way to a $2 million turnover in the State with a little help from the Tasmanian
Government.
QAI’s managing director, Mr Wes Rosenbaum, said today that this new
business has already created 20 jobs as well as secured a contract with a
Victorian company to provide an Internet sales call centre.
“This is the third call centre we have opened with employment assistance from
the Tasmanian Government and represents a milestone in the growth of our
group,” he said.
“We anticipate that Salesworx will employ a further 10 people within a month
which will bring our total employment in the State to more than 120.
“We expect this new business to turn over approximately $2 million in the next
12 months through current contracts and new business.
“Salesworx has been established to take advantage of the market for call centres
- which is growing at 25 per cent per year – and to provide companies,
government departments and organisations with a call centre for hire service to
help their sales, marketing and information campaigns.”
Premier, Jim Bacon, said in a statement issued today: “Well thought-out
agreements, like the one between the Government and the Davnet group, make
an important contribution to employment in Tasmania.”
Davnet acquired QAI in June 1999.
