Hauptprodukt BEMA Fetanyl (Schmerzmittel) Ende Phase III, voraussichtlicher Zulassungsantrag 2.

Neue Versuchsreihe bzw. neuer Antrag geplant.
      - Streitigkeiten mit Finanzierungspartner "Clinical Development Capital and Care Capital of Princeton"

      http://www.biodeliverysciences.com/news/documents/07-17-06Em…

Produkt2.

US$

US$ zusätzlich zu 2,55 Mio. US$ einer Kreditlinie von Hopkins Capital.

      http://www.biodeliverysciences.com/news/documents/05-17-06CD…

      4. Personen.

      http://www.biodeliverysciences.com/news/documents/08-30-06DA…

      http://www.biodeliverysciences.com/company/management.html

      5. Schwachpunkt.

US$) an dem Unternehmen beteiligt.

      Informationen hier: http://www.nasdaq.com/asp/Holdings.asp?mode=&kind=&timeframe…

Dennoch Freitag wieder fast 10% Kursverlust.

BioDelivery Gets FDA OK to Test Bioral
Friday February 2, 9:35 am ET
BioDelivery Sciences International Receives FDA Approval to Start Human Studies on Bioral

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Biopharmaceutical company BioDelivery Sciences International Inc. said Friday the Food and Drug Administration approved human clinical testing of its Bioral drug delivery system.

The company plans on testing its lead Bioral candidate, an oral version of Amphotericin B, which is an antifungicidal used to treat infections including esophageal candidiasis, an infection prevalent in HIV patients and cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.

Bioral technology is aimed at turning drugs available only by injection into orally administered doses. It uses cochleates, or naturally occurring substances designed to encapsulate, protect and deliver certain drug molecules.

BioDelivery Sciences did not outline its timeline for the beginning of Phase I clinical trials.

Shares rose 26 cents, or almost 10 percent, to $2.90 in morning trading on the Nasdaq.

BDSI Anticipates Announcing Phase III BEMA Fentanyl Efficacy Data in April
      Treatment for Breakthrough Cancer pain

      MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq:BDSI) plans to report Phase III data in April, regarding the efficacy of BEMA Fentanyl in the treatment of breakthrough pain in cancer patients.

"We are finishing patient recruitment for this pivotal trial," said Dr. Andrew Finn, BDSI's Executive Director of Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs. He added "Recruitment has been challenging given the terminal nature of most of these patients and the limited number that ultimately meet all of the entry criteria for our study design. We look forward to completing enrollment over the next several weeks, analyzing the data and reporting our efficacy results in April."

"We are encouraged with the progress we are making in our Phase III BEMA Fentanyl program for breakthrough cancer pain. We plan to give additional guidance on the timing of our NDA submission when we have our results from this efficacy trial," said BDSI's President and CEO, Dr. Mark Sirgo. We continue to focus the use of our financial and other resources into moving this program forward as we envision our BEMA Fentanyl product taking its place as the next available product in the fast-dissolving fentanyl breakthrough cancer pain market place, following Cephalon's newly launched Fentora. We are taking every step to assure the quality of this program. Our estimated minimum peak sales for BEMA Fentanyl for the indication of breakthrough cancer pain are $250 million."

      http://www.bdsinternational.com/ir/documents/BDSIOppenhiemer…

BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq:BDSI) announced today statistically significant results with BEMA(TM) Fentanyl in cancer patients with breakthrough pain in its pivotal Phase III efficacy clinical trial for the product. The results are based on achievement of the primary efficacy endpoint of the trial, Summary of Pain Intensity Difference (SPID), compared to placebo.

The results demonstrated that patients treated with BEMA(TM) Fentanyl showed a statistically significant improvement on the primary efficacy endpoint at 30 minutes (SPID 30) compared to placebo (p less than 0.004), meaning a greater reduction in pain. Eighty (80) patients participated in the double-blind, placebo-controlled portion of the study.

BEMA(TM) Fentanyl consists of a small, dissolvable polymer disc, formulated with the opioid narcotic fentanyl, for application to the buccal (inner lining of cheek) membranes. Upon administration, BEMA Fentanyl is designed to deliver a rapid, reliable dose of drug across mucous membranes.

Dr. Andrew Finn, BDSI's Executive Vice President of Product Development, stated "We are obviously very pleased with these efficacy results. Only five patients (approximately 3% of those patients entering the initial titration phase of the study) were unable to achieve adequate pain relief. We believe this high level of pain control is attributable to the efficient, reliable absorption from the buccal mucosa, the ease of application of the BEMA Fentanyl product and the ability to titrate across a wide range of doses up to and including our 1200 mcg dose. Importantly, the results also demonstrated that BEMA(TM) Fentanyl was well-tolerated by patients in the trial, with no reported drug-related changes to the oral mucosa, which is important for cancer patients who may also have oral ulcerations as a result of a weakened immune system."

"Once we have the remainder of the data analyzed, including the secondary efficacy parameters, our plan will be to submit the data to a scientific conference for presentation. We will do that at the first available opportunity and at the most appropriate forum. However, we wanted to be able to share the news that we have achieved the most important endpoint, namely the SPID 30, at this time," concluded Dr. Finn.

Dr. Mark Sirgo, President and CEO of BDSI, commented, "These Phase III results demonstrate that the BEMA(TM) delivery system is effective in delivering a significant level of fentanyl over a range of doses to manage the breakthrough cancer pain that occurred in these patients. The results also demonstrated that the dosage form was convenient and comfortable to use. Importantly, we believe that the dose linearity (i.e. double the dose and double the plasma concentration of the drug) demonstrated in our previously announced pharmacokinetic studies up to the 1200 mcg dose provide the ability to relieve breakthrough cancer pain in a higher percentage of patients. This was demonstrated by the fact that only 3% of patients who entered the titration phase did not proceed to the double blind, placebo controlled phase of the study because they could not achieve adequate pain control. Overall, given the efficacy profile of BEMA(TM) Fentanyl as demonstrated during this Phase III study, along with the apparent ease of use and comfort of the BEMA(TM) disc, we remain confident that BEMA(TM) Fentanyl has the potential to play an important role in the future treatment of breakthrough cancer pain."

In 2006, franchise sales for the market leader in rapid acting fentanyl products were a reported $659 million, while only treating less than 50,000 of the estimated 500,000 cancer patients with breakthrough pain. "We believe that the efficacy and safety profile of BEMA(TM) Fentanyl is well suited to penetrate the 90% of the market that is not served by existing products" commented Dr. Sirgo. "Based on this, and assuming NDA acceptance and approval by FDA and that our development and commercialization activities continue as planned, we continue to believe that we will ultimately reach our annual peak sales projection of $250 million for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain."

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to congratulate our senior management and our entire BEMA(TM) Fentanyl team for achieving this pivotal milestone in the history of BDSI" said Frank E. O'Donnell Jr., M.D., Chairman of the Board of BDSI. "Since the addition of Drs. Sirgo and Finn to our senior management team in 2004, BDSI has made great strides in its evolution from a drug delivery company into a specialty pharmaceutical company. In that time, under their dedicated, tireless and very able leadership, BDSI has carefully marshaled and focused its resources, faced and overcome many obstacles and stayed true to its pursuit of the capital and time efficient 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway. Our team has brought tangible value to our stockholders, and our board takes this time to state its appreciation and admiration of the efforts of our management team and all of our employees."

Dr. O'Donnell continued, "We are hopeful that this demonstration of the effectiveness of BEMA(TM) Fentanyl augers very well for the potential application of the BEMA(TM) technology to other therapeutics that normally require parenteral administration. While it is true that work remains to be completed in the regulatory and commercial areas for BEMA(TM) Fentanyl, now that we have demonstrated the clinical value of this important delivery technology, we will seek to expand our pipeline of other clinically and economically valuable applications and partnerships."

Patients from the efficacy study were also eligible for entry in the long-term safety study with BEMA(TM) Fentanyl, which is still ongoing. The two studies together will form the foundation of BDSI's New Drug Application (NDA) scheduled for submission during the third quarter of 2007. Prior to this submission, BDSI will conduct a pre-NDA meeting with the FDA on June 28, 2007 to discuss results of this efficacy trial along with the safety data and other requirements for the NDA submission.

BDSI will host a conference call to discuss the results today April 25th at 11:00 AM ET. We invite all those interested in hearing management's discussion to join the call by dialing 1-(877)-407-8033. International participants may access the call by dialing 1-(201)-689-8033. A replay will be available for one week following the call by dialing 1-(877)-660-6853 for domestic participants or 1-(201)-612-7415 for international participants and entering account number 286 plus conference ID code 240056 when prompted. Participants may also access a live webcast of the conference call through the BDSI website at www.biodeliverysciences.com or at http://www.vcall.com/IC/CEPage.asp?ID=116323. The webcast will be archived on the company's website for 7 days.

      About the BEMA(TM) Technology

BDSI's BEMA(TM) drug delivery technology consists of a dissolvable, dime-sized polymer disc for application to the mucosal (inner lining of cheek) membrane. BEMA(TM) discs deliver a rapid, reliable dose of drug across mucous membranes for time-critical conditions or trauma cases where intravenous lines or injections are unavailable or not practical.

      About BEMA(TM) Fentanyl

BDSI's lead product under development is BEMA(TM) Fentanyl, a treatment for "breakthrough" cancer pain (i.e., episodes of severe pain which "break through" the medication used to control the persistent pain). BDSI believes there is a clear need and growing market for additional narcotic agents in alternative dosage forms to provide rapid pain relief. Fentanyl belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics, which are used to relieve pain. The transmucosal form of fentanyl is a powerful narcotic used to treat breakthrough cancer pain. BDSI believes that fentanyl applied with its BEMA(TM) disc technology has the potential to meet the market need for new narcotics and, BDSI believes, will be well suited for breakthrough cancer pain in opioid-tolerant patients.

BioDelivery Reports More Pain Drug Data
Monday May 14, 10:58 am ET
BioDelivery Cites Additional Positive Data From Pain Treatment Study for Cancer Patients

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Drug company BioDelivery Sciences International Inc. said Monday its pain treatment Bema Fentanyl showed additional positive results in a late-stage study of cancer patients.

The drug candidate was effective on its secondary goal of relieving pain within 15 minutes compared with placebo. On April 25, the company said it met its primary goal in the late-stage clinical trial of relieving pain within 30 minutes, compared with placebo.

The company said it will file for approval with the Food and Drug Administration during the third quarter. BioDelivery is projecting peak sales of $250 million annually for the treatment.

Shares of BioDelivery rose 14 cents, or 3 percent, to $4.80 in morning trading. The stock has traded between $1.65 and $8.26 in the last 52 weeks.

      ----

BDSI Secures U.S. Commercial Partnership for BEMATM Fentanyl with Meda AB
BDSI to receive $30 million up front payment; $30 million upon NDA approval and double digit royalty on U.S. net sales
Company to Hold Conference Call and Web Cast at 3pm Today to discuss the Partnership
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)— September 5, 2007 — BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI) has entered into an exclusive and perpetual license and related supply agreement with Meda for the U.S., Canadian and Mexican commercialization rights to BDSI’s flagship BEMATM Fentanyl product for the treatment of “breakthrough” cancer pain. Under this agreement, Meda will be responsible for the marketing and distribution of BEMA Fentanyl in the U.S., whose launch is anticipated in late 2008. In addition, Meda will be responsible for the management of the post-NDA approval clinical development program.
      Financial Aspects of the Partnership:
      • 1st milestone: $30 million upon closing which is contingent upon antitrust approval by the Federal Trade Commission, which typically occurs within 30 days of filing.
      • 2nd milestone: $30 million upon receipt of FDA approval, which is anticipated in late 2008.
      • Royalty: BDSI to receive a significant double digit royalty on net sales. Guaranteed minimum annual royalties, based on low sales, exist during the first 7 years.
      • Sales milestones: A total of $30 million payable at:
o $10 million when annualized sales exceeds $75 million
o $10 million when annualized sales exceeds $125 million
o $10 million when annualized sales exceeds $175 million
      • A gross margin above 70% is secured for Meda.
BEMA Fentanyl consists of a small, dissolvable, polymer disc, formulated with the opioid narcotic fentanyl, for application to the buccal (inner lining of cheek) membranes.
BEMA Fentanyl has shown in clinical studies important patient advantages compared to competing products, especially fewer side effects. According to published results, the two currently largest competing fentanyl products in the U.S. with the same indication had combined sales of nearly $700 million in 2006 and grew by approximately 60% versus 2005.
Sales, marketing, and clinical studies, post-approval, to support competitive claims and expanded indications will be the responsibility of Meda. Meda and BDSI will also collaborate on expanding the indications for BEMA Fentanyl, which could increase fourfold the market potential. Meda will fund this development, and will also get a right of first refusal on the commercialization rights to future development projects based on BEMA Fentanyl.
Meda and BDSI started their collaboration in 2006 with BEMA Fentanyl for all the European markets. In July this year, Meda announced the acquisition of the U.S. specialty pharma company MedPointe Inc, an acquisition which immediately gave access to a strong platform in the US with about 500 employees within marketing and sales. Through this acquisition and Meda’s rapid development in Europe, Meda’s annual turnover has increased from around $30 million in 2002 to now approaching $1.4 billion (including MedPointe).
“This is a landmark event for BDSI, and based on our standing relationship with Meda in Europe, we believe Meda is going to be a terrific marketing partner for BEMA Fentanyl here in the U.S.” said Dr. Mark A. Sirgo, BDSI’s President and CEO. “Meda already knows BDSI and the product they will be selling here in the U.S. When they recently entered the U.S. marketplace by purchasing MedPointe, they actively pursued the U.S. BEMA Fentanyl opportunity with us given the natural strategic fit. We believe Meda provides BDSI a commercial partner with global reach and abundant resources to support our lead product. Importantly, this transaction, along with the anticipated submission of our BEMA Fentanyl NDA, will allow us to achieve BDSI’s highest priorities for 2007. We could not be more pleased.”
Anders Lonner, CEO of Meda, stated “It is optimal timing for us to acquire the BEMA Fentanyl rights so soon after the acquisition of our U.S. platform MedPointe. BEMA Fentanyl represents a huge opportunity for us in the U.S. Our ambition with this product within the breakthrough cancer pain indication is to reach well over $200 million in yearly sales. Our U.S. marketing organization has good experience in the pain area and is well acquainted with the target group. Pain is a priority therapy area and with this deal we now add a significant potential for Meda in the U.S. market.”
BDSI will host a conference call to discuss the partnership today September 5, 2007 at 3:00 PM ET. We invite all those interested in hearing management's discussion to join the call by dialing 1-(877)-407-0778. International participants may access the call by dialing 1-(201)-689-8565. A replay will be available for one week following the call by dialing 1-(877)-660-6853 for domestic participants or 1-(201)-612-7415 for international participants and entering account number 286 plus conference ID code 254566 when prompted. Participants may also access a live web cast of the conference call through the
BDSI website at www.biodeliverysciences.com or at http://www.vcall.com/IC/CEPage.asp?ID=120733. The web cast will be archived on the company's website for 7 days.
      About BEMA™ Fentanyl
BDSI’s lead product under development is BEMA™ Fentanyl, a treatment for “breakthrough” cancer pain (i.e., episodes of severe pain which “break through” the medication used to control the persistent pain). BDSI believes that fentanyl applied with its BEMA™ disc technology has the potential to meet the market need for new narcotics and, BDSI believes, will be well suited for breakthrough cancer pain in opioid-tolerant patients.

MORRISVILLE, N.C., Sep 10, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI) has exercised its option to acquire the U.S rights to the BEMA(TM) drug delivery technology that BDSI licensed from QLT USA, Inc. The acquisition gives BDSI full ownership of the BEMA(TM) technology and eliminates any payment of royalties to or the sharing of milestone payments with QLT USA going forward for any BEMA product. More specifically, now that the technology has been purchased, BDSI is not required to share the upfront payment, or any future financial benefit it expects to receive from the partnership agreement signed with Meda AB last week involving BEMA Fentanyl.

This acquisition was undertaken concurrently with BDSI's entry into a license and supply agreement with Meda AB for the commercialization rights to BDSI's BEMA(TM) Fentanyl product in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. BDSI anticipates a $30 million non-refundable upfront milestone payment from Meda upon the approval of the required Hart Scott Rodino (HSR) antitrust review.

To acquire the U.S. rights to the BEMA(TM) technology, BDSI paid QLT $3 million at the closing of the acquisition and has issued a promissory note in the amount of $4 million. The note is payable to QLT in two future $2 million installments triggered by the occurrence of specific milestones, including the NDA approval of BDSI's first BEMA product. BDSI financed the initial $3 million payment with a short term bank note and expects to repay the note with a portion of the $30 million milestone payment it expects to receive from Meda upon the conclusion of the HSR review period. This is anticipated to occur in October 2007.

"We are pleased to have been able to take full ownership of this technology which plays such a significant strategic role to our company," said Mark Sirgo, BDSI President and CEO. "We are following through on our strategic plan, initiated last year, when we acquired the non-U.S. BEMA assets. This acquisition was integral to consummating our licensing agreement with Meda last week. By doing so, QLT is eliminated from receiving any future milestone or royalty payments on BEMA Fentanyl or any BEMA product. This brings a tremendous benefit to our stockholders."

Dr. Sirgo continued, "We believe this transaction, coupled with the U.S. licensing partnership with Meda, solidifies our financial position for the foreseeable future. Upon receipt of the $30 million upfront payment from Meda, we are projecting to be cash flow positive for 2007. Looking forward into 2008, we anticipate receiving an additional milestone payment from Meda totaling $30 million with the NDA approval and commercial launch of BEMA Fentanyl. Based on our NDA approval timeline and projected product launch, we also anticipate receiving royalty revenues from BEMA Fentanyl by the end of 2008. We anticipate that these events would allow us to remain cash flow positive for 2008 as well. This is exactly the product-driven value proposition that we have sought to bring to our stockholders."

Dr. Sirgo concluded, "Finally, with the Meda funds in hand and a vastly improved balance sheet, we expect, following the submission of our BEMA Fentanyl NDA filing in the next 30-45 days, to begin to aggressively address the rest of our rich and differentiating product pipeline, including anticipated proof of concept data on our follow on pain product BEMA LA and our Bioral Amphotericin B product in 2008."

      Hallo,

      http://www.biodeliverysciences.com/ir/documents/BDSIInvestor…

      Es geht voran:

Dollar an QLT

      http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/InfoSheets/HCP/fentanyl_buccal.…

Thursday September 6, 11:22 pm ET

Biodelivery Sciences International (BDSI) announced Wednesay that they received a commercial partnership for their Bema Fetanyl drug candidate with Meda AB, which could add up to $90 million in payments for BDSI. This proves very rewarding for shareholders of BDSI, including the Chairman, Dr. Frank O'Donnel, who purchased 400,000 shares last January $2.68.00 per share, along with an additional 400,000 at $2.68, shares though his 100% owned VC firm Hopkins Capital Group.

Recently, Dr. O'Donnel purchased 875,000 shares of Accentia Biopharmaceuticals (ABPI) at $8.87.00 per share. The current market price is $2.20.00. Accentia Biopharmaceuticals recently provided interim blinded data on the ongoing clinical trial of Sinunase which showed that 50% of the people in the trial are responding positively.

We just don't know if it's the drug or the placebo. From what I understand, in order to participate in the trial one had to have failed surgery, antibiotics, and two weeks of saline irrigation. It is a 50/50 trial in which half are getting the drug and the other half a placebo. If they prove it works it will be a windfall for Accentia shareholders with a potential market of over $2 billion dollars. Dr. O'Donnel purchased the shares recently at a 400% premium to the current market price.

Also, warten wir morgen mal ab.

      Also, long bleiben...

      http://www.handelsblatt.com/news/default.aspx?_t=ft&_p=20311…

      http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/actavis02_08.html

So, also jetzt nochmal ein wenig ausführlicher.

So macht Börse Spaß!

BioDelivery Sciences and Meda Announce FDA Approval of ONSOLIS

BDSI to Receive $27 Million in Milestone Payments

Fourth Quarter Launch by Commercial Partner Meda is Anticipated

First Buccal Soluble Film Delivery System for the Treatment of Breakthrough Cancer Pain

BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI) and Meda AB today announced approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market ONSOLIS™ (fentanyl buccal soluble film), formerly referred to as BEMA™ Fentanyl, for the management of breakthrough pain (BTP) in patients with cancer, eighteen years of age and older, who are already receiving and who are tolerant to opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain. ONSOLIS is the first product to utilize the company’s proprietary BioErodible MucoAdhesive (BEMA) drug delivery technology, which consists of a small, dissolvable, polymer film for application to the buccal mucosa (inner lining of the cheek).

“The approval of ONSOLIS is a landmark and transformational event for BDSI and represents the culmination of an extraordinary and focused effort by a determined group of BDSI and Meda employees,” said Dr. Mark A. Sirgo, President and Chief Executive Officer of BioDelivery Sciences. “All of us at BDSI, along with our partner Meda, are very pleased to provide healthcare practitioners and their patients suffering from breakthrough cancer pain with a new treatment option for this serious and debilitating condition.”

“Importantly, with the approval of ONSOLIS, we have validated the utility of the BEMA drug delivery technology and demonstrated our ability to move a product through clinical development and the regulatory requirements set by FDA,” said Dr. Andrew Finn, Executive Vice President of Product Development. “We now look forward to replicating our performance and regulatory achievements as we progress our pipeline.”

“Having worked on the clinical development of ONSOLIS, it is exciting to see it reach approval,” said Dr. Richard L. Rauck, Executive Director of the Carolinas Pain Institute and for the Center for Clinical Research, a site that participated in the Phase 3 trials for ONSOLIS. “Many patients with cancer suffer from these sharp spikes in pain referred to as breakthrough pain. These patients can benefit from a product like ONSOLIS with its onset of action and oral tolerability profile. We look forward to having this important option available for our patients with cancer breakthrough pain.”

ONSOLIS is anticipated to be available in the fourth quarter of 2009 and will be commercialized in the U.S. by Meda Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. subsidiary of Meda AB. Meda is the company’s commercialization partner for the product worldwide, with the exception of Taiwan and South Korea, the rights to which remain with BDSI. “We are very excited to launch ONSOLIS in the U.S. and make this product available to patients and healthcare providers,” said Anders Lonner, Chief Executive Officer of Meda AB. “The introduction of ONSOLIS has high priority for us, and we are well positioned to be successful.”

Under the terms of its commercialization agreement with Meda, BioDelivery Sciences will receive an aggregate of approximately $27 million in milestone payments. The first is based upon FDA approval of ONSOLIS which is in the amount of approximately $12 million. Meda had already advanced the company $3 million in January 2009 against the $15 million milestone payment. A second payment of $15 million will be received following the manufacture of launch stocks of ONSOLIS, a target the company has also achieved. In addition, BDSI will receive a double-digit royalty on net sales as well as the potential for up to another $30 million in milestone payments upon the achievement of certain sales thresholds.

“We are also announcing launch of the FOCUS™ (Full Ongoing Commitment to User Safety) Program for ONSOLIS, the first opioid Risk Management and Evaluation Strategy (REMS),” said Dr. David Wright, Director of Regulatory Affairs at BDSI. “The goal of the FOCUS Program for ONSOLIS is to mitigate the risk of ONSOLIS overdose, abuse, addiction, and serious complications due to medication errors. The program was created in accordance with the FDA’s requirements to help ensure that the benefits outweigh the risks of ONSOLIS. The program will facilitate appropriate use of ONSOLIS and provide healthcare practitioners, patients, and caregivers support through training and education.”

BDSI will hold a webcast to discuss the approval of ONSOLIS on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Participants are invited to access the live webcast or obtain a dial-in number from the company’s website at www.biodeliverysciences.com.

      About Breakthrough Pain

Breakthrough Pain (BTP) is a common, debilitating feature of chronic pain, particularly in patients with cancer. It is a transitory, severe, or excruciating pain flare-up that “breaks through” the relief provided by around-the-clock analgesics. Unlike persistent cancer pain, BTP is generally rapid in onset (within three minutes) and lasts up to two hours. Patients with cancer may experience between two and seven episodes of BTP a day. A large multicenter survey conducted by pain specialists in twenty-four countries found that 65% of 1,095 cancer patients had BTP1. It is estimated that over a half-million people in the U.S. with cancer suffer from breakthrough pain, however, only about twenty thousand receive a treatment approved for the condition.

      About ONSOLIS

ONSOLIS consists of a small, dissolvable, polymer film, formulated with the opioid narcotic fentanyl for application to the buccal mucosa (inner lining of the cheek). Fentanyl belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics, which are used to relieve pain. ONSOLIS was evaluated in over 300 patients with over 90,000 doses administered in clinical trials. ONSOLIS adheres to the buccal mucosa in seconds, starts to dissolve in minutes and delivers fentanyl across the mucosa for relief of BTP in opioid tolerant patients with cancer. On Wednesday July 22, 2009, 7:00 am EDT

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI - News) today announced receipt of $26.7 million in milestone payments from its commercial partner Meda AB in connection with the approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of BDSI’s breakthrough cancer pain product ONSOLIS™ (fentanyl buccal soluble film) and satisfactory preparation of commercial launch supplies.

In addition to the $26.7 million received, BDSI will also receive a double-digit royalty on net sales of ONSOLIS, and the potential for additional milestone payments of up to another $30 million upon the achievement of certain sales thresholds. ONSOLIS will be commercialized in the U.S. by Meda Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. subsidiary of Meda AB and is expected to be available for sale early fourth quarter of this year.

“The receipt of this milestone payment, together with approximately $5 million we have received from the exercise of outstanding warrants over the past several weeks, puts the company in the strongest financial position in its history, with approximately $30 million in cash and no long term debt. These funds allow us to immediately turn to accelerating the development of our exciting pipeline, particularly BEMA™ Buprenorphine and Bioral™ Amphotericin B, as well as to place a third BEMA product in the clinic next year,” stated Dr. Mark A. Sirgo, President and Chief Executive Officer of BioDelivery Sciences.

“In addition, we expect that receipt of these funds will leave BDSI cash flow positive from operations and with nearly $60 million in recognized revenue for 2009,” added Dr. Sirgo. “Moreover, with the launch of ONSOLIS expected in early fourth quarter of this year, we also expect that we will begin receiving royalty income. In short, our economic outlook and ability to execute our business plan have never been better.”

BDSI had previously recorded milestone payments from Meda as deferred revenue, and with the FDA approval, those amounts, together with the approval milestone, will be recognized as revenue to the company.

Dr. Sirgo also stated, “We anticipate significant news flow in the coming months regarding the launch of ONSOLIS by Meda Pharmaceuticals and the progress of our product pipeline. Of note, we anticipate year end results from our Phase 2 dental pain study with BEMA Buprenorphine, which we believe could lead to a sizable licensing transaction in 2010. We also hope to have completed our next Phase 1 trial with Bioral Amphotericin B this year before moving to Phase 2 in the first half of 2010. Now, with an FDA approved product in ONSOLIS, a validated technology in BEMA, an exciting pipeline of products and cash on hand, we believe that our ability to drive shareholder value has never been better.”

BioDelivery Doesn't Stop With Onsolis Approval

      07/27/09 - 11:08 AM EDT

      Adam Feuerstein

RALEIGH, N.C. (TheStreet) -- The post-drug-approval glow has gone missing from BioDelivery Sciences(BDSI Quote).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved BioDelivery's cancer pain drug Onsolis on July 16. It's the company's first drug approval and an important validation for its drug delivery technology.

Yet, the stock has moved largely downhill since, with shares off as much as 25% from the intraday high of $7.25 on the day Onsolis' approval was announced. BioDelivery closed Friday at $5.38 a share.

A number of investors bought BioDelivery only for the Onsolis approval trade, never intending to own the stock for the drug's commercial launch. Thus, the sell-on-the-news reaction isn't a big surprise. Biotech catalyst trading -- whether it be clinical trial data or FDA approvals -- is increasing in popularity, especially for small biotech and drug company stocks that list under $10. BioDelivery was a $3 stock in March.

The vacuum left by the traders' exit from BioDelivery coupled with what should be a slow launch for Onsolis (more on that below) means longer-term investors have a chance to slowly build a position in the company.

Roughly speaking, BioDelivery looks fairly valued to me at its current price, which assumes $150 million in annual Onsolis sales at peak, of which the company receives 15% because its partner, the Swedish drug firm Meda AB, is selling the drug in the U.S. and Europe.

(BioDelivery management thinks Onsolis can achieve $200 million in annual peak sales, of which it gets a royalty of between 10% and 20% plus some sales-related milestone payments from Meda.)

The bigger opportunity in BioDelivery today is the company's pipeline, which is essentially valued at zero.

Onsolis is a thin film containing a dose of the powerful painkiller fentanyl that patients place on the inner lining of their cheek. The drug is approved only for patients with cancer-related pain that persists despite the continued use of oral opioids.

BioDelivery owns the polymer film drug delivery technology upon which Onsolis is based and which the company is using to develop other products.

Onsolis will compete against generic and branded versions of Actiq, which is fentanyl delivered via a lozenge (think a fentanyl lollipop) and Fentora, an Alka-Seltzer-like tablet that dissolves in the mouth when mixed with saliva. Cephalon(CEPH Quote), Barr Labs(BRL Quote) and Watson Pharmaceuticals(WPI Quote) sell Actiq, while Cephalon markets Fentora.

BioDelivery CEO Mark Sirgo says Onsolis delivers a steadier and more predictable dose of Fentanyl than Actiq or Fentora with more convenience and fewer side effects. The current market for so-called breakthrough cancer pain drugs is about $700 million annually, he says, although most of that comes from the sale of the drugs to pain specialists and not oncologists.

Meda, which will sell Onsolis, will target pain specialists but will focus equally on oncologists because cancer patients are relatively underserved. Of the 500,000 cancer patients eligible for breakthrough pain therapy, only about 30,000 are currently treated, said Sirgo.

New rules intended to increase the monitoring of how powerful painkillers are used will make future sales more challenging.

The FDA, concerned about the misuse and abuse of pain-killing medicines, recently instituted new rules requiring companies that sell these drugs to have stringent risk-management plans. These plans require doctors to register and be licensed to ensure that the painkillers are prescribed and used correctly.

"Risk-management plans are an impediment," says Dr. Jennifer Obel, an oncologist with North Shore University Health Systems in Chicago. "Any time you require doctors to proactively fill out paperwork or subject them to a risk-management plan, they are going to be less inclined to use the drug."

Obel doesn't use fentanyl-based painkillers with her patients mainly because she finds most are able to manage cancer-related pains using long- and short-acting morphine alone. She's familiar with Onsolis, however, and does believe that the product has some dosing and convenience advantages over Actiq and Fentora.

Matt Kaplan, an analyst at Ladenburg Thalman, believes the Onsolis risk-management plan will slow the drug's launch, but doctors only need to register once, so the impact should be short-lived.

BioDelivery will also be the first company with a risk-management plan for a fentanyl-based breakthrough cancer pain drug in place at launch, which should be an advantage since competitors with drugs already on the market have to essentially rework and restart their marketing programs. Kaplan has a buy rating on BioDelivery with a $9 price target.

Looking ahead, BioDelivery's Sirgo says the company wants to start new clinical trials to expand Onsolis into the non-cancer pain treatment market, which could potentially double sales of the drug.

The company is also working on its second pain product, a form of buprenorphine also delivered on a thin film placed in a patient's cheek. BioDelivery recently started a phase II study of its buprenorphine product in patients with post-operative dental pain; other studies in acute and chronic pain will also be considered. Sirgo says the drug addresses a $500 million to $1 billion commercial market.

Data from the dental pain study should be released at the end of the year and Sirgo hopes to have a partnership for the drug in place during the second half of 2010.

Roth initiates BioDelivery Sciences Int'l (BDSI 5.16) with a Buy and sets a $7.25 tgt, following recently received approval for the cancer breakthrough pain drug Onsolis (sold by Meda). This targets a $500+ mln market in the U.S. (at branded prices). Firm believes that a best-in-class delivery mechanism could drive peak sales of $150-200 mln (BDSI receives double-digit royalties). They note a gradual launch trajectory as the REMS program (risk management) is likely to create initial hurdles to adoption.

      BioDelivery Sciences
On Monday I called it awfully suspicious that Adam Feuerstein decided to weigh in on BioDelivery Sciences (BDSI) and Tuesday's trading action, after the Feuerstein piece, raises my eyebrows even more.

Somehow, in my opinion, and based on Adam's previous just as shady antics, he is involved with the mess that Elliot Associates is making of the post-Onsolis-approval BDSI stock.

For investors that are quickly losing patience, I maintain my position that BDSI is a solid Hold, if not buy, at these levels and I will certainly buy if it drops below five dollars.

With the unpredictability of the stock of late, I will not venture to say when I think the stock will bounce back but I will say that it's only a matter of time before it does.

For new investors looking to get in, buy now while the stock is dropping. As the time approaches for an Onsolis launch later this year, the stock price should recover.

For long time holders of BDSI, have patience.

Was in dieser Aktie an Potential steckt sollte jeder selber untersuchen. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Hier aber die News von heute:

      RALEIGH, N.C., April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI - News) announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has formally awarded BDSI's patent No. 13/184306, "Transmucosal Delivery Devices with Enhanced Uptake," which extends the patent protection for BDSI's BioErodible MucoAdhesive (BEMA) products, BEMA Buprenorphine and BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone, by seven years to 2027. The USPTO had issued a Notice of Allowance to BDSI for this patent as previously disclosed in February of this year.

BDSI now confirms that the $15 million milestone associated with its licensing and development agreement with Endo Pharmaceuticals for BEMA Buprenorphine is payable, bringing the total milestone payments received thus far to $45 million.

Was steht an? Die Onsolis Produktionsfragen (Farbveränderung) werden bald gelöst sein, Verkäufe von Breakyl (Onsolis in Europa), neue Daten zu BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone.

      Das wird ein spannendes Jahr!

BioDelivery Sciences Announces Positive Results from BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone (BNX) Pharmacokinetic Study

Results of the FDA recommended trial demonstrate dose proportionality ahead of the forthcoming pivotal pharmacokinetic study versus Suboxone

NDA on track for submission in the first half of 2013

      Jun 28, 2012

RALEIGH, N.C., June 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BDSI) announced positive results of a recently completed pharmacokinetic study (BNX-106) examining the effects of multiple BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone (BNX) films administered concurrently. This study was part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended program for a New Drug Application (NDA) for BNX.

The study confirmed that the buprenorphine pharmacokinetics were nearly identical following multiple BNX films applied at one time compared to an equivalent dose administered as a single film. Additionally, there was a linear relationship in buprenorphine pharmacokinetics across the dose range of BNX administered, meaning that as doses of BNX increased, there was a corresponding increase in the amount of buprenorphine in the plasma. Regarding the naloxone component of BNX, the study demonstrated that the exposure of naloxone is similar to the reference standard, Suboxone.

Overall, these results provide additional confidence that the doses selected for BDSI's upcoming pivotal pharmacokinetic study for BNX will produce similar buprenorphine pharmacokinetics as the reference product, Suboxone. This pivotal pharmacokinetic study is a critical component of the NDA.

"We are pleased to have again demonstrated the ability of our BEMA drug delivery technology to provide solid dose proportionality," said Dr. Andrew Finn, Executive Vice President of Product Development. "The outcome of this study not only satisfies the FDA's request for a multiple film evaluation, but it also enhances the probability of success for BNX in our upcoming pivotal pharmacokinetic study versus Suboxone."
BDSI expects to have key data results from the pivotal pharmacokinetic study versus Suboxone in late third quarter of this year after a mid-summer initiation. The final clinical requirement for the NDA, an open-label safety study, will initiate on time in the third quarter allowing BDSI to remain on track for an NDA filing in the first half of 2013.

About BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone (BNX) and Opioid Dependence
BNX is being developed for the treatment of opioid dependence and contains the same drug components as Suboxone, the only currently marketed formulation of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine reduces the craving and withdrawal effects from the dependent opioid, and the opioid antagonist, naloxone, is present to deter abuse.
Opioid dependence is a significantly undertreated condition in the U.S., with nearly 2 million people dependent on prescription opioids according to the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone), which was approved for the treatment of opioid dependence in 2002, has been shown to be a highly effective treatment option and, as a result, currently generates annual sales of more than $1.2 billion, growing over 20% in 2011 according to data from Wolters Kluwer. BDSI believes that BNX, which uses BDSI's proprietary BEMA delivery technology, has the potential to offer advantages over Suboxone and could seize a meaningful share of this rapidly growing market.

BioDelivery Sciences Announces Completion of Enrollment in Pivotal Pharmacokinetic Study of BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone Compared to Suboxone

Results on target to be released in September.

      Aug 20, 2012

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (Nasdaq: BDSI) announced that enrollment and the clinical portion of the pivotal pharmacokinetic study for BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone (BNX) for the treatment of opioid dependence has been completed.

As agreed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February 2012, the study, referred to as BNX-103, was designed to compare the relative bioavailability of buprenorphine and naloxone from BNX with the reference product Suboxone. Meeting those requirements will represent a positive outcome of that study. All subjects have been dosed and the analytical work (i.e., plasma sample analysis) is in process. BDSI expects to report results from this pivotal pharmacokinetic study before the end of September.

The open-label safety study, which is the last clinical requirement for this program, is expected to complete by year-end. Availability of the necessary product stability data for BNX in the first quarter of 2013 will be followed by submission of the NDA in the second quarter.

BioDelivery Sciences - What's The Buzz?

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Shares of BioDelivery Sciences International Inc. (BDSI) are up more than 500% year-to-date and trade over $4. As the company moves closer towards reporting the study results of its late-stage product candidate, BNX for the treatment of opioid dependence, it will be interesting to see how the stock price plays out in the coming days.

For readers who are new to BioDelivery Sciences, here's a brief overview of the company's pipeline and the upcoming catalysts to watch out for...

BioDelivery Sciences is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing effective opioid analgesics with a low propensity for abuse and addiction. The company's patented and proprietary drug delivery technologies are BEMA (BioErodible MucoAdhesive) and Bioral.

There are two products under phase III testing - BEMA Buprenorphine for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain, and BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone, or BNX, for the treatment of opioid dependence.

The company is scheduled to report results of its pivotal pharmacokinetic study of BNX for the treatment of opioid dependence, dubbed BNX-103, before the end of this month (September, 2012). The BNX-103 study completed enrollment in August of this year.

According to BioDelivery Sciences, BNX contains the same drug components as Suboxone, the only currently marketed formulation of buprenorphine and naloxone, developed by UK-based consumer health firm Reckitt Benckiser plc. Buprenorphine reduces the craving and withdrawal effects from the dependent opioid, and the opioid antagonist, naloxone, is present to deter abuse.

Suboxone was approved for the treatment of opioid dependence in 2002, and according to market research firm Wolters Kluwer, sales of the drug in the U.S. exceeded $1.2 billion in 2011 and continue to steadily grow.

A positive outcome of BNX-103 will show that BEMA Buprenorphine/Naloxone is bioequivalent to Suboxone.

A safety study for BNX, which is the last clinical requirement for this program, is scheduled for completion by this year-end. If all goes well as planned, the product stability data for BNX is anticipated in the first quarter of 2013, followed by submission of the NDA in the second quarter.

BEMA Buprenorphine, for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain, is yet another compound which is under phase III testing. BioDelivery Sciences has a definitive license and development agreement with Endo Health Solutions Inc. (ENDP), formerly Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc., to develop and market BEMA Buprenorphine product candidate on a worldwide basis.

Last month, a phase III clinical program for BEMA Buprenorphine for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain was initiated with input from the FDA. The phase III program of BEMA Buprenorphine consists of two efficacy studies, one in opioid naïve and one in opioid experienced subjects. The studies are anticipated to be completed by late 2013 or early 2014.

A previous phase III study of BEMA Buprenorphine for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain in a mixed opioid naive and opioid experienced population, the results of which were which were reported last September, failed to meet the primary endpoint of overall pain intensity difference between BEMA Buprenorphine and placebo. However, there was significant pain control in the opioid 'experienced' group of patients when treated with BEMA Buprenorphine in that phase III study, according to the company.

BioDelivery Sciences has one approved product - ONSOLIS for the management of breakthrough pain in cancer patients 18 years of age and older. The company has licensed the commercialization rights to ONSOLIS to Meda globally, with the exception of Taiwan and South Korea. In Europe, the drug is marketed as Breakyl.

A quick look at the company's balance sheet...

In the second quarter ended June 30, 2012, the company reported a net income of $2.53 million or $0.08 per share compared to a net loss of $5.09 million or $0.18 per share in the year-ago quarter. BioDelivery Sciences' total revenue, which included, contract revenue from the Endo license agreement and contract revenue under the Meda agreements, rose to $15 million in Q2, 2012, up from $38 thousand in the year-ago quarter. The company ended Q2, 2012 with cash and cash equivalents of approximately $43 million.

BDSI has thus far hit a low of $0.77 and a high of $5.19. The stock closed Friday's trading at $4.93, up 1.44%.

      http://finance.yahoo.com/news/monosol-rx-defeats-biodelivery…

      Monosol:
"In less than nine months after BDSI filed its requests for reexamination of the PharmFilm(R) patents, the PTO issued reexamination certificates for both patents. The reexamination certificate on the '292 Patent noted 33 new claims and the canceling of no claims, while the reexamination certificate on the '891 patent replaced the original nine claims with 19 new claims. The ability of MonoSol Rx and the PTO to rapidly address the reexaminations and to drive each to a successful conclusion with robust claims that broadly cover MonoSol Rx's innovations in PharmFilm(R) technology continues to demonstrate the strength of MonoSol Rx's patent position."

      BDSI:
"As expected, in Ex Parte Reexamination proceedings before the U.S. Patent Office brought by BDSI relating to two of MonoSol's patents in the case (US Patent No. 7,357,891 ('891 Patent) and US Patent No. 7,425,292 ('292 Patent)), MonoSol amended the associated claims several times and made multiple declarations and arguments in an attempt to overcome the rejections made by the U.S. Patent Office. Through the proceedings, MonoSol was forced to significantly narrow its claims in order to obtain allowance, demonstrating that the original claims were invalid. These claim amendments, as well as declarations and other statements regarding the claim language, have significantly narrowed the scope of their patents. "

      http://finance.yahoo.com/news/biodelivery-sciences-expands-p…

(Aus dem 10K Statement: Based on our original assertion that our proprietary manufacturing process for ONSOLIS® does not infringe on patents held by MonoSol, and the denial and subsequent narrowing of the claims on the two reissued patents MonoSol has asserted against BDSI while the third has had all claims rejected by the USPTO, we remain very confident in our original stated position regarding this matter. Thus far we have proven that the “original” 292 and 891 patents in light of their reissuance with fewer and narrower claims were indeed invalid and the third and final patent, 588, has had all claims rejected and appears to have had a similar fate. Importantly, we will continue to defend this case vigorously, and we anticipate that MonoSol’s claims against us will ultimately be rejected.)

(10K: "On December 18, 2012, our proposed resolution to the crystal and fading issues for ONSOLIS® were presented to the FDA. We believe that the outcome of the meeting was favorable, and we plan to produce the revised formulation for ONSOLIS® to provide FDA with supporting stability data, while concurrently offering to bridge the supply demands of ONSOLIS® in the market place with the current ONSOLIS® formulation by reducing the shelf life of the product until the new formulation is approved by the FDA. The documentation required for FDA review of the new formulation was submitted in March 2013. If our plan is accepted by the FDA, the current formulation could be reintroduced into the marketplace by the second half of 2013 and distributed until the new formulation is available.")
