Jetzt kommt endlich Bewegung in den Ring of Fire: Eine von der Provinzialregierung von Ontario gegründe "Ring of Fire Development Corporation" ist damit beauftragt, die notwendige Infrastrukturplanung vorzunehmen und Entwicklungsaktivitäten zu beschleunigen.

Alle wichtigen Akteure wurden an Bord geholt (First Nations, Cliffs, KWG, Noront etc.), um den festgefahrenen Prozess (nicht zuletzt durch die Tricksereien von CLF, die ihnen aber nix brachten), wieder in Gang zu bringen. Die Bundesregierung wird ebenfalls mit einbezogen, aber auch die Ontario Northland (ONTC). Damit werden totgeglaubte Werte wie KWG, Noront, aber auch MacDonald Mines (BMK) hoffentlich wiederbelebt. KWG und NOT haben nachgewiesene Ressourcen, BMK hält neben NOT eine der größten Landpositionen im RoF und hat die Unterstützung von Hudbay (halten ca. 10%).

So wie die Development Corporation angelegt ist, könnte es langfristig zu einer von KWG vorgeschlagenen "Port Authority" mit der ONTC kommen (Bahnverbindung), gleichzeitig muss auch eine strategisch wichtige Strassenverbindung gebaut werden, die verschiedene First Nations einbezieht. Welche Strassenverbindung das letztlich sein wird (es gibt ja verschiedene Vorschläge, u. a. von NOT), ist noch offen, aber sicherlich wird sie den Interessen der First Nations gerecht werden müssen.

Liegt der strike preis nicht bei 4 CAD? Da sehe ich auch eher schwarz. Die Bewertung würde dann bei über 1 Mrd Cad liegen.

Taxloss selling season ist vorbei, Management hat sich bei 0,17 CAD mit option vollgesogen, EA ist raus, drill-program für 2014 angekündigt, 200-Tagelinie nach oben durchbrochen, Momentum wieder da, die letzten Handelstage stets auf TH geschlossen.

Wenn jetzt noch die Gov-Entscheidung über Infrastruktur (E/W-road samt Regierungsbeteiligung an den Kosten) kommt, könnte es endlich ein NOT-Jahr werden.

Allen stillen und treuen longs (bin selbst seit Windfall sowie dem glory hole 2007 dabei und habe alle Höhen und Tiefen mitgemacht) ein glückliches, gesundes und erfolgreiches Jahr 2014.

Es wurde ja auch das geschäftsjahr dem kalenderjahr angepasst. hatte irgendwo mal gelesen, dass sich das board demzufolge nochmals optionen sichern konnte, sonst wäre das wohl erst im frühjahr nächsten jahres möglich gewesen. aber aus zeitgründen habe ich das nicht selbst rechachiert.
Mir fehlen leider noch knapp 60% um auf null zu kommen, obowhl ich die letzten wochen die stückzahl nochmals gut erhöht habe.
Leider ist die anzhal der shares schon bei ca. 250mio, aber ist noch einiges luft nach oben.

Querschläger kann es immer geben, aber was so auf agoracom über den in 4/6 Wochen zu erwartenden HH 2014 bzgl. Infrastruktur, Energie an amtlichen und medialen Hinweisen eingestellt/diskutiert wird, sowie die Einigung mit den FN, die nur noch vertraglich des Abschlusses bedarf, lichten sich die Nebel um Noront immer mehr.

Anfang Mai könnte mithin der große Durchbruch kommen. Der Kurs der letzten drei Monate zeigt an, dass zumindest die retailer zuversichtlich sind.

Wenn das Ont-gov grünes Licht gibt, gibt es kein Halten mehr, obwohl die Prüfung der EA noch andauert. Die Finanzierung steht für mich ohnehin außer Frage.

Sofern uns die globale wirtschaftliche Entwicklung sowie das sich langsam verabschiedende Geldsystem nicht in die Suppe spuckt, kann man NOT durchaus als Witwen- und Waisen-Anlage sehen.

If Cliffs Natural Resources has any interest in shedding its Ontario chromite properties in the Ring of Fire, Alan Coutts said Noront Resources is, potentially, a willing buyer.

The president and CEO of Noront expressed a definite interest in Cliffs’ assets, but cautioned there have been no direct talks with Cliffs regarding the acquisition of its chromite claims on its Black Thor, Big Daddy and Black Label discoveries, but should the Ohio miner initiate a sales process, “we would be first in line.”

Toronto-based Noront announced May 23 that it had acquired Cliffs’ abandoned exploration camp at McFaulds Lake.

Both Noront’s and Cliffs’ camps are located within a few hundred metres of each other on some of few areas of high ground in the swampy James Bay lowlands.

Noront said the transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2014. The sale price is being kept confidential.

Noront plans to use the combined camps as a larger construction base to house more than 200 workers in the eventual development of its flagship Eagle’s Nest nickel, copper and base metal mine, and to carve out a road hundreds of kilometres west toward Pickle Lake in northwestern Ontario.

“We’re hoping to take advantage of the 2014-15 winter season to start work in earnest,” said Coutts.

The camp is within 500 metres of its flagship Eagle’s Nest deposit and its Blackbird chromite find.

Like the Noront camp, the Cliffs facility contains a kitchen, mess hall area, bunk houses, core shacks, a communications hut, and a water treatment plant.

Also included is an equipment fleet of backhoes, loaders and snowmobiles used by Cliffs to jointly build and maintain a winter ice airstrip.

Coutts said his company always maintained a collegial relationship with Cliffs.

“Often Cliffs would accommodate our people in their camp if it made more sense not to have both camps running. We worked closely together over the years.”

Last November, Cliffs announced it was shutting down all exploration and technical work at its flagship Black Thor chromite discovery, citing unresolved infrastructure issues with the province among other related risks in advancing its project.

While rumours persist that the Ohio mining company will eventually sell its chromite claims, Cliffs has officially maintained it has no intention of doing so.

But the company is fighting a backwater action with Casablanca Capital, a New York hedge fund, which is one of the mining company’s biggest shareholders.

Casablanca wants Cliffs to spin off its international assets, including its Ring of Fire chromite claims, into a separate business unit and focus more on its low-risk, core U.S. assets. All this will shake out at Cliffs’ annual general meeting on July 29.

If Casablanca were to get its way and Cliffs decides to divest itself of its Ontario properties, Coutts said Noront is prepared to jump in with a formal proposal.
“We would be very interested in having that discussion.”

Coutts said Noront has an equity ownership group with deep enough pockets to make a major move if necessary; namely the Baosteel Group, one of China’s largest steel producers, and Resource Capital Fund, which recently raised $2 billion for mining investments.

“We do have some depth when it comes to make acquisitions.”

Noront Resources bills itself as the leading player in the Ring of Fire, having completed a federal-provincial environmental impact statement and assessment report for Eagle's Nest late last year, a data-gathering process that took three years.

The company said it has also received approval of its mining lease application for Eagle’s Nest and Blackbird. The lease covers 4,100 hectares in the Ring of Fire and gives Noront the right to extract mineral products for a period of 21 years.

With support from area First Nations, the company expects Eagle’s Nest will eventually be the first mine to go into production by late 2017 or early 2018.

“We’re committed to the area and we have our own chromite play, the Blackbird deposit, that we have in our pipeline,” said Coutts. “But certainly if we can consolidate a position in the Ring of Fire, it’s very much in our interest.”

Es ist eine Story, deren Spannung in den nächsten Wochen auf den Siedepunkt steigen wird: Der 5.000 Quadratkilometer große “Ring of Fire” in Northern Ontario, Kanada, ist die größte Lagerstätte für wertvolles Chromeisenerz in ganz Nordamerika. Das Ressourcenpotenzial wird in Experten-Studien auf einen Wert von unglaublichen 60 Milliarden Dollar taxiert, andere Quellen sprechen gar von mehreren hundert Milliarden! Klar ist: Der Rohstoff ist knapp, die Nachfrage jedoch stetig wachsend. Das ist kaum verwunderlich: Chromeisenerz wird auf der ganzen Welt zur Stahlverarbeitung- beziehungsweise -veredelung eingesetzt. Kampf ums Chrom – die spektakulären Hintergründe
Bis dato sind Südafrika und Kasachstan die größten Produzenten von Chromeisenerz, doch mit den neuesten Entwicklungen im Ring of Fire reift auch Kanada zu einem Mega-Exporteur heran. Neben dem 1.024 Hektar großen “Koper Lake”-Projekt, bei dem KWG zukünftig bis zu 80% der Chrom-Produktion für sich beanspruchen kann und das laut jüngstem Ressourcen-Update auf 77,2 Millionen Tonnen mit einem Cr2O3-Gehalt von beeindruckenden 35,1% kommt, konzentriert sich die Aufmerksamkeit vor allem auf das zentral gelegene “Big Daddy”-Depot, das als eines der größten und hochgradigsten der Welt gilt und dem eine Schlüsselposition in der zukünftigen Chrom-Industrie im Ring of Fire und damit in Nordamerika und schlussendlich der ganzen Welt zukommen dürfte! Das 1.241 große Projekt wird seit Jahren in einem Joint Venture zwischen der hundertprozentigen KWG-Tochterfirma Canada Chrome Corporation sowie zwei Unternehmen aus dem Cliffs-Konzern gehalten. Cliffs Natural Resources ist ein US-amerikanischer Eisenerz-Riese mit Assets im Wert von über 13 Milliarden Dollar. 2010 startete Cliffs den Versuch, den 30%-Anteil von Canada Chrome am Big Daddy-Projekt zu erwerben. Im Zuge dessen konnte sich der Aktienkurs von KWG mehr als verdoppeln, doch wohlwissend um das außergewöhnliche Potenzial ließ sich das Management nicht zu einem Verkauf unter Wert verleiten.

Frustrierte Konkurrenz: Kein Weg führt an KWG vorbei!
Über erwähnte Canada Chrome Corporation besitzt KWG die Rechte an einem sage und schreibe 330 Kilometer langen Landabschnitt, der für den Bau einer Eisenbahnlinie zwischen dem Big Daddy-Depot und Produktionsstätten in der Kleinstadt Nakina vorgesehen ist. Ein entsprechendes, 15 Millionen Dollar teures Gutachten belegt bereits die Machbarkeit und bringt KWG in eine einzigartig komfortable Position, die im Kern lautet: “Wir sagen, wo es lang geht!”. So könnte KWG von anderen Mining-Unternehmen im Ring of Fire Gebühren für den Transport von Erz über die eigene Eisenbahnverbindung verlangen. Das schmeckt Cliffs natürlich gar nicht, weshalb man auf dem Rechtsweg versucht hat, wenigstens eine Genehmigung für den Bau einer Straße über das KWG-Gelände zu erhalten – vergeblich! Ein 3,3 Milliarden Dollar schweres Entwicklungsprogramm für den Ring of Fire hat Cliffs mittlerweile gestoppt. Das Big Daddy-Projekt ist also seit einiger Zeit “on hold” – doch jetzt kommt endlich Bewegung rein!

Entscheidungstag 29. Juli!
Für KWG stehen jetzt äußerst bedeutende Wochen bevor. So steht Cliffs seit geraumer Zeit unter starkem Beschuss seines Großaktionärs Casablanca Capital. Am 29. Juli will Casablanca auf Cliffs’ Hauptversammlung die Kontrolle an sich reißen und anschließend dafür sorgen, dass sich das Unternehmen auf sein US-Kerngeschäft konzentriert und unter anderem seine kanadischen Assets abstößt (siehe www.fixcliffs.com). Betroffen von den geplanten Verkäufen ist folgerichtig auch das Big Daddy-Projekt. Vorverhandlungen zwischen KWG und Casablanca für den wahrscheinlichen Fall des Machtwechsels bei Cliffs sollen bereits stattgefunden haben. Man kann also davon ausgehen, dass KWG durch die Übernahme von Cliffs-Positionen sehr bald weiteren Einfluss im Ring of Fire gewinnen wird. Dass dieser bereits stetig wächst, zeigt unter anderem auch eine aktuelle Meldung, wonach sich KWG gegen den Ring-of-Fire-Wettbewerber Noront Resources im Kampf um weitere Schürfrechte durchsetzen konnte. Noront ist mit rund 125 Millionen Dollar Marktkapitalisierung aktuell noch circa dreimal höher bewertet als KWG. Dieses Verhältnis könnte sich bald umkehren!

Gespräche mit ThyssenKrupp: Deutscher Stahl-Gigant vor Einstieg?
Niemand Geringeres als der deutsche Stahl- und Technologiekonzern ThyssenKrupp soll derzeit ernsthaft an Projekten im Ring of Fire interessiert sein und bereits mehrfach mit KWG am Verhandlungstisch gesessen haben. Ensprechende Meetings wurden uns von Unternehmensseite bestätigt, zu den Details will man aber – verständlicherweise – noch nichts verraten. Wir gehen davon aus, dass ThyssenKrupp und möglicherweise auch weitere Branchen-Schwergewichte wie Glencore es sich nicht leisten können, bei einer neu entstehenden Stahl-Industrie wie jetzt im Ring of Fire nur zuzuschauen. Ist das Cliffs-”Problem” vom Tisch, sollten entprechende Transaktionen nicht lange auf sich warten lassen. So ist denkbar, dass ein Großkonzern wie ThyssenKrupp zeitnah an die Stelle von Cliffs treten und KWGs Mammut-Projekte in die Produktion führen wird. Neben seinen Schürfrechten besitzt KWG nämlich noch eine hocheffektive, patentierte Technologie zur direkten Umwandlung von Chromeisenerz in Eisen- und Chrommetalle mittels Erdgas – für jemanden wie ThyssenKrupp sicher sehr interessant! Die auch in Deutschland über Frankfurt und Tradegate gehandelte KWG-Aktie erreichte an der kanadischen Heimatbörse im Frühjahr ein Jahreshoch bei 9,5 Cent, notiert aktuell mit 5,5 Cent aber deutlich tiefer. Gut für Neuinvestoren: Mit Blick auf die spannenden nächsen Wochen erscheint uns ein jetziger Einstieg nach der jüngsten Konsolidierung perfekt!

Lourenco Goncalves, head of U.S.-based Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF), made the comment during an interview with the Financial Post last week.




"I don't believe under my watch, and I plan to stay [alive] for the next 50 years… that the Ring of Fire will be developed," the 55-year-old told the newspaper.

The 4,000-square-kilometre Ring of Fire, located 540 km northeast of Thunder Bay, is home to an estimated $60 billion worth of mineral deposits, and lawmakers say it could bring prosperity to northern Ontario much like the oil sands industry have to northern Alberta. But the region lacks highways, rail lines or reliable power.

Last year Cliffs had to suspend most work on its $3.3 billion Black Thor chromite deposit, citing stalled talks with the province and other political and regulatory problems. The miner had also struggled to win over aboriginal communities. The stoppage came despite Cliffs spending some $500 million building its land position in the region.

Goncalves doesn't hold much hope of finding a buyer for its asset, either. While several junior mining companies exploring in the Ring of Fire, including KWG Resources (TSXV:KWG) and Noront Resources (TSXV:NOT), have expressed interest in purchasing Black Thor, "They do not have any money," the FP quoted him as saying. “The Ring of Fire is a remote land with no railroad, no road, nothing,” he added. “Without the infrastructure, there’s nothing we can do.”

The negative comments came as a shock to the Ontario government, which said in April it is ready to allocate up to CAD$1 billion to develop an all-season transportation corridor to the Ring of Fire and it is asking the federal government to match the funds.

"The comments from the CEO of Cliffs were somewhat startling," Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle told CBC News on Friday. Gravelle countered by saying that 20 other mining companies have interests in the Ring of Fire and that many in the mining industry disagree with Goncalves. "

The head of Noront Resources is appealing to the provincial government to allow it to begin work developing its Eagle's Nest nickel mine in the Ring of Fire while a plan to share resources with First Nations over the long term is developed.

Alan Coutts wants the province to give Noront the environmental approval it needs to start on its mine and all-weather road while an "over-arching" framework agreement is being negotiated with First Nations about resource sharing and related issues.

Noront isn't asking for special treatment, said its president and chief executive officer during a visit to Sudbury.

It just wants the province to approve Noront's terms of reference for the environmental assessment it submitted 2 1/2 years ago so it can keep and attract investors, reach impact benefit agreements with three First Nations near Eagle's Nest and start mining ore.

Coutts was in Sudbury at the invitation of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Ring of Fire Task Force to talk about the status of Noront's project, why it is stalled and what he believes must be done to move it forward.

Coutts' message to the provincial government is his company could begin developing Eagle's Nest following existing mining legislation, "and do it in the spirit of the framework agreement."

The Liberal government of Premier Kathleen Wynne is focused on developing a framework agreement to address how to develop resources in consultation with First Nations over the next 50-100 years, and that's stalling his project now, he said.

Because that process has taken longer than expected, Coutts fears "by the time this thing is negotiated, there won't be anyone left to build anything."

Former Ontario New Democrat premier Bob Rae and former supreme court justice Frank Iacobucci set priorities for the framework agreement last summer, and they could guide Noront in its relations with First Nations.

The goals of the initial agreement are how to share resource revenue with first nations, how the province will support the health and well being of people near the Ring of Fire, how local communities can participate in the environmental assessment process and what infrastructure will be developed to develop the Ring of Fire.

Noront has been working with communities near Eagle's Nest for seven years and has built good relationships with them, said Coutts. But it's been impossible to reach firm agreements because they're involved in the over-arching process and there is no incentive to reach an impact benefit agreement with Noront.

Noront's goals are essentially the same as those outlined in the framework agreement, said Coutts -- to seek input from communities for the environmental assessment, "create a lot of wealth and share it," and for everyone to benefit from infrastructure that will be built for the Ring.

If Noront doesn't move soon, Coutts fears investors will be go elsewhere, especially if there's a rich new mineral find in some other part of the world.

Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources pulled out of the Ring of Fire because it couldn't reach agreements with the province to mine its vast chromite resources or even get a decision on a method of transportation.

"Noront keeps saying, 'Why don't we do this nickel (project), which is very rich," smaller in scale and doesn't require big infrastructure, said Coutts. Sudbury has two smelters where the nickel, palladium and platinum mined at Eagle's Nest could be processed.

It makes sense to start small, he said. When communities near the Ring see jobs are being created, roads are being built and that Noront is "a good steward of the environment," bigger projects can be tackled.

Noront also owns a chromite deposit called Blackbird, 500 metres from Eagle's Nest, with about 44 million tons of the metal that, when processed, is used to manufacture stainless steel.

Coutts has been visiting chambers of commerce in Ontario to tell them Noront could begin work by the end of 2015, if the province would review its environmental assessment, provide feedback and allow permitting.

Noront is getting firmer in delivering its message it's time for the provincial government to act.

"We've got a rare opportunity to get something done, and my fear is we're going to miss that window," said Coutts.

During the campaign for the June 12 provincial election, Wynne and Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle pointed several times to Noront as an example of a company committed to developing its Ring of Fire project, particularly when the Liberals were criticized for letting Cliffs slip away.

About 700 jobs would be created during the construction of the mine and 280-kilometre all-seasons road, and 300 people would be employed when Eagle's Nest is operating.

The mine and road could be built in three years, by which time analysts are projecting nickel would be selling consistently for $10 to $12 a pound. Coutts wants his $700-million project, excluding the road toll, to be operating by then to capitalize on those nickel prices.

If the province acted, Noront's environmental assessment could be reviewed, revised and approved within weeks, and it could "earnestly" go back to markets to arrange financing.

Coutts is convinced his company could reach impact benefit agreements with the three First Nations located near Eagle's Nest -- Marten Falls, Webequie and Neskantaga -- while the larger framework agreement is nailed down.

"There's big community support" for the nickel mine, said Coutts. "I like the communities. The communities are great. They like the development. They want to do it with someone they like and trust, and I think they want to do it with us."

Noront is saying to the province: "We've spent a lot of time in communities, we know them, they know us ... we're struggling to understand what else we can do here."

The mandate of the chamber's Ring of Fire task force is to advance the development of the Ring of Fire and ensure Sudbury’s voice is heard in its development.

("Noront") (TSX VENTURE: NOT) has entered into an agreement to acquire, among other things, the shares of Cliffs Chromite Ontario Inc. ("CCOI") and Cliffs Chromite Far North Inc. ("CCFNI"), both indirect wholly owned subsidiaries of Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) ("Cliffs"), which hold mining claims in the Ring of Fire mining district, for an acquisition price of US$20 million (the "Transaction").

The Transaction includes the acquisition of approximately 103 claims currently owned by CCOI and CCFNI, including: a 100% interest in the Black Thor chromite deposit; a 100% interest in the Black Label chromite deposit; and, a 70% interest in the Big Daddy chromite deposit. It also gives Noront 85% ownership of the McFauld's Lake copper zinc resource.

Upon closing, Noront will hold a total of approximately 360 mining claims and roughly 65% (80,000 hectares) of the emerging mining camp known as the Ring of Fire, located 500 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. These additional assets, alongside Noront's existing Eagle's Nest nickel-copper-platinum group element deposit and its Blackbird chromite deposit will allow Noront to further its vision of becoming the leading resource company in the area.

"This purchase consolidates the world-class discoveries made in the Ring of Fire," said Noront President and CEO Alan Coutts. "It also underscores Noront's long-standing belief and commitment to the region. We have made significant investments in the Ring of Fire and our team has become experts in the region from both a technical and social point of view. We also believe in the considerable exploration upside which we are eager to develop."

The Transaction
Noront has entered into a share purchase agreement (the "Share Purchase Agreement") with certain subsidiaries of Cliffs, including Cliffs Quebec Iron Mining ULC ("CQIM"), pursuant to which Noront will acquire the shares of CCOI and CCFNI.

To finance the Transaction, concurrently with the execution of the Share Purchase Agreement, Noront has entered into a loan agreement (the "Loan Agreement") with Franco Nevada Corporation ("Franco Nevada") through which Franco Nevada will loan US$22.5 million to Noront for a seven-year period at a 7% interest rate with interest to be accrued and paid at the end of the loan term. In return, Franco Nevada will receive a 3% royalty over the Black Thor chromite deposit and a 2% royalty over all of Noront's property in the region with the exception of Eagle's Nest, which is excluded. The loan will be secured against the CCOI and CCFNI assets acquired in connection with the Transaction. It is intended that US$20 million of the loan proceeds will be used to fund the acquisition price of the Transaction, with the remaining US$2.5 million to be provided to Noront for general working capital purposes. In addition, Noront will receive from Franco Nevada US$3.5 million in cash consideration as part of the granting of the royalty arrangements.

Noront engaged Scotia Capital Inc. as its financial advisor in connection with the loan and royalty transactions.

Other Conditions
On January 27, 2015, CQIM commenced restructuring proceedings in Montréal, Québec, under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (Canada). As a result, CQIM will be required to obtain Court approval for the sale of the securities of CCOI and CCFNI to Noront with the effect that, as of the closing date, the securities acquired will be free and clear of all liens or any other encumbrances (the "Approval and Vesting Order").

The Transaction is subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions, including obtaining the Approval and Vesting Order and satisfaction of all other conditions required under the Share Purchase Agreement and the Loan Agreement. The Transaction is expected to close on or about mid April, 2015.

The Ontario government has put 'a gun to the head' of First Nations leaders trying to negotiate a fair deal in the Ring of Fire mining area in the James Bay lowlands, Neskantaga Chief Peter Moonias says.

His comments came within hours of Noront Resources announcement on Monday that it had struck a deal to buy Cliffs Natural Resources assets in the area.

Chiefs were informed of the deal at the same time as being told that the province has set an April 1 deadline for a decision on the next step in Noront's environmental assessment for a proposed nickel mine in the Ring of Fire, Moonias said.

"There's a hidden agenda," he said. "We are being targeted with a gun to our head. We have no more opportunity to study the process."

The deadline doesn't allow enough time for community members in the nine First Nations closest to the Ring of Fire mineral deposits to be informed, Moonias said.

The Matawa First Nations are engaged in a negotiation process about the mining project under a framework agreement with Ontario. Moonias said the sudden announcement of the tight timeline left him disillusioned about the talks.

"What will it take to fix it? It will take chiefs to stand up and say that's it," Moonias said. "Because the government is going to continuously do that to us, to not allow us to do our own process in our community."

Noront originally submitted its terms of reference for the environmental assessment for its proposed Eagle's Nest mine in 2012. The Ontario government website says it continues to be under review.

When Noront's deal with Cliffs closes, the company said it will own approximately 65 per cent of all Ring of Fire claims.

Noront expects Ring of Fire road funding announcement soon

With a funding announcement for a permanent Ring of Fire road expected shortly, Toronto-based Noront Resources is enlarging its land package in the James Bay camp and is devising a multiple mine development plan..

The company announced Aug. 8 that it has signed an agreement with MacDonald Mines Exploration to acquire a 75 per cent interest in their properties. The all-share deal is subject to approval from the TSX Venture Exchange.

Noront will issue $750,000 of common shares to MacDonald to earn the majority interest in the Butler and Sanderson Properties, two separate claim blocks that hold prospective zinc, copper, nickel and chromite deposits.

"MacDonald's Butler and Sanderson properties are excellent, strategic purchases," said Noront’s chief development officer Steve Flewelling. "They are highly prospective and further consolidate our land position, adding 35 per cent to our Ring of Fire holdings. Noront now controls approximately 75 per cent of the staked claims in the region, and we will consider every opportunity to increase our holdings as we are confident that the Ring of Fire will be the next major mining camp in Ontario."

Noront's cornerstone project in the Ring of Fire is the Eagle's Nest, a nickel-copper-platinum group element mine with an 11-20 year life. It’s project to create employment opportunities for more than 300.

In a news release, the company said it’s now waiting on Ottawa, Queen’s Park and area First Nations to jointly announce plans to fund a permanent west-to-east access road to connect the remote communities to the outside world by an all-season road, and also reach the exploration camp.

The company expects mine construction to begin in 2018 at the same time road construction gets underway. The first concentrate production begins in 2021.

Noront expects to access the mine through the road corridor to be shared with local First Nations communities.

Once Eagle’s Nest is in production, Noront plans to start the construction of its Blackbird chromite project.

The company said since acquiring Cliffs' chromite deposits in 2015, the technical data from Cliffs has been incorporated into a phased chromite plan with a development timeline.

Furthermore, a ferrochrome smelter will be constructed at a yet to-be-determined brownfields site in Ontario.

Noront said the Blackbird chromite project has the potential to produce up to 200,000 tonnes per annum of high quality ferrochrome which represents roughly 50 per cent of current North American demand.

Development of the Black Thor and Big Daddy chromite deposits will follow with a timeline dependent upon the ferrochrome market.

Interessant finde ich, dass Franco-Nevada bei Noront mitspielt.
Damit schätze ich das Chancenverhältnis Pleite/Tenbagger vielleicht auf 40/60 %.

Der Zeitplan scheint mir allerdings extrem "sportlich" zu sein.
Und wahrscheinlich werden wir zur Finanzierung auch gewaltig verwässert, oder?
Aber ich glaub mal an Wunder und lasse mich gerne positiv überraschen.

In Ontario gerät das gov nun arg unter Druck und wetzt - man glaubt es kaum - selbst die Messer gegen die bisher "unantastbaren" FN.

Es deutet sich zumindest an, dass in den nächsten Monaten Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht werden sollen.

Ich bin als stiller Zaungast seit August 2007 dabei, habe nie aufgegeben an "the king of the ring" zu glauben. Gleichwohl sind in der Zwischenzeit meine Haare nicht nur weiss geworden, sondern haben sich weitgehend von dannen gemacht.

Province of Ontario to Fund Ring of Fire Road Proposals Led by Marten Falls, Webequie and Nibiminik First Nations





TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - August 21, 2017) - Noront Resources Ltd. ("Noront") (TSX VENTURE: NOT) participated in a joint announcement today by Premier Kathleen Wynne and the Chiefs of Marten Falls, Webequie and Nibiminik First Nations, which formally committed provincial funding to two First Nations road proposals that will provide community and industrial access to the Ring of Fire Mining District.

Road Proposals

The provincial government agreed to support and fund the following road proposals which will connect First Nation communities to the Ring of Fire:

An east-west road connecting Webequie and Nibinamik First Nations to the provincial highway network north of Pickle Lake (the "East-West Road"). This road will continue from the Community of Webequie to the Ring of Fire.
A north-south community access road is being planned for construction by the Marten Falls First Nation with an option to expand the road to the Ring of Fire to support the development of chromite mining (the "North - South Road").

An environmental assessment of both road projects is expected to begin by January 2018, followed by construction in 2019 pending all necessary approvals. This timeframe allows Noront to advance its pre-development work and ready itself for the three-year construction of its Eagle's Nest nickel, copper, platinum group metal mine.

A Major Step Forward

"Today's announcement by Premier Kathleen Wynne and the Chiefs of Webequie, Marten Falls and Nibinamik First Nations is a major step forward that will re-energize development of the Ring of Fire region," said Noront President and CEO Alan Coutts. "Construction of all-season industrial and community access roads is one of the key things we've been working toward with the government and our First Nation partners. I am very pleased to see it moving forward."

Noront plans to create a multi-mine, multi-metals company in the Ring of Fire, in partnership with local First Nations communities. Eagle's Nest which is the company's first project would use the planned East - West Road, while its future larger-scale chromite project would use the North - South Road, which will allow for a greater volume of material to be moved.

In April 2017, Noront signed an Exploration and Project Advancement Agreement with Marten Falls First Nation, and is currently negotiating a pre-development agreement with this community. As development continues in the Ring of Fire, the company looks forward to collaborating with other First Nation partners on similar agreements and road projects in order provide input into the technical industrial road specifications and development timelines.

Payment of interest in the amount of $390,120 for the second quarter of 2017 pursuant to a loan agreement entered into between Noront and Resource Capital Funds V L.P. ("RCF") dated February 26, 2013 (the "Loan Agreement") has been satisfied by delivery of 1,103,593 common shares of the Company (the "Interest Shares") at an effective price of $0.3535 per Interest Share. The Interest Shares were delivered on July 13, 2017 subject to a four month hold period, expiring on November 14, 2017.

The calculation of the number of Interest Shares issued was based on the volume weighted average trading price of the common shares of the Company during the 20 trading days prior to June 30, 2017.

After giving effect to the issuance of the Interest Shares, there are 330,114,374 common shares of the company issued and outstanding.

The sparsely populated, but mineral-rich, Ring of Fire zone in northwestern Ontario will be getting high-speed internet at a cost of $67.1 million to taxpayers.

Funding for the project, which involves the installation of 880 kilometres of new fibre-optic cable, is being announced Friday in Thunder Bay by the federal and provincial governments in hopes of spurring the mining of an estimated $60 billion in chromite, gold and other deposits in the region.

“In today’s economy, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury; it is essential,” said Navdeep Bains, federal minister of innovation, science and economic development.

Up to $37.1 million has been earmarked by the federal government and $30 million by Queen’s Park. The contractor is Rapid Lynx Telecommunications.

The investment follows Ontario’s decision in August to move ahead with an all-season road into the proposed Noront Resources mining project in the Ring of Fire zone after years of delays and negotiations with First Nations.

That road is expected to provide a much-needed economic boost to the area about 575 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay and connect remote communities to other highways.

Federal officials said the high-speed internet will serve 610 households at five remote First Nations communities, including Fort Hope and Webequie, along with 36 businesses and institutions.

That averages out to almost $104,000 per location.

The Ontario government pledged $1 billion to develop the Ring of Fire three years ago and has been pressing Ottawa to match that amount to help build road access and electricity transmission corridors into the area.

Ontario has touted the Ring of Fire as one of Canada’s next great mining zones, with massive deposits of chromium, a key ingredient in stainless steel, and other minerals, which could provide thousands of mining and processing jobs for generations in the economically depressed area.

Bains touted the internet funding as “yet another demonstration of our government’s commitment to the economic development of northern Ontario.”

The service will help residents and businesses connect with the outside world better for everything from online distance education to new opportunities and job searches, he added.

“We are bridging the digital divide.”

Opposition parties have been critical of the Ontario government for not moving faster to develop the Ring of Fire.

Environmental assessments for the all-season road are slated to begin in January, six months before the June 7 provincial election, and construction is set to start in 2019.

Noront’s president Alan Coutts hailed the road is “a major step forward” for the company’s hopes of developing the mining site.

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has estimated the Ring of Fire could generate $9.4 billion in new economic activity over the next decade and support 5,500 jobs a year.

The absence of a roadway has been a major barrier to development, prompting U.S. mining giant Cliffs Natural Resources to pull out of a major mining project four years ago.

How much is the Ring of Fire really worth?

Why has mining still not begun in Ontario’s Ring of Fire mineral deposit belt a decade after its discovery? Are the deposits worthless, or are there factors beyond the control of the mining industry that are blocking progress?

Collectively, these deposits contain at least 34.8 Mt (metric tons) of Cr that would be recoverable into a direct-shipping lump and chip ore with a dollar value, once it is contained within ferrochrome, of about $117 billion, in Canadian dollars.

The reason nothing is happening in the Ring of Fire has nothing to do with the value of the deposits. It is entirely due to the inability of governments at all levels, including First Nations, provincial, and federal, to reach consensus on land tenure and development plans.

It is time for all of these groups to negotiate in good faith and govern effectively for their stakeholders so that the value of the Ring of Fire can be realized while providing access and development opportunities to a marginalized region of Ontario.

Geht mir ähnlich, bin auch seit Anfang 2007 dabei (Entdeckung von Eagle´s Nest). Habe somit auch viele Höhen und Tiefen mitgemacht mit teilweise fetten Gewinnen

Die Story hier ist noch nicht beendet, die beginnt aktuell erst wieder interessant zu werden in Bezug auf die Properties/Rohstoffe mit Nickel, Kupfer, Chrom und PGE.

Wie läuft das denn jetzt ab? Die Aktionäre werden ein Angebot erhalten und das annehmen oder nicht.

Kommt das Ganze nur dann zum Tragen, wenn ein gewisser Prozentsatz der Aktionäre zustimmt? Oder nehmen die erstmal alle Aktien, die sie kriegen können und unterbreiten danach ggf. sogar noch ein höheres Angebot?

In jedem Fall sollte der Kurs jetzt auf dem Niveau abgesichert sein, es wäre doch eigentlich Unsinn, jetzt billiger am Markt zu verkaufen, wenn man stattdessen auch das Angebot annehmen könnte.

Vielleicht kennt sich jemand damit aus und kann es erklären.

Leute, gutes Inverview des CEOs. Es kristallisiert sich immer mehr heraus, dass noch weitere Angebote kommen, evtl. sogar von einem bisher noch nicht beteiligten Unternehmen. Ziemlich ruhig hier. Dafür mehren sich die Anzeichen eines weiteren höheren Angebots immer mehr. Das aktuelle Angebot liegt bei 55 cent, der Kurs ist jedoch schon auf 59 cent gestiegen. Der Markt weiß mehr, da kommt nächste Woche etwas.

Naja, darüber lässt sich streiten. Fakt ist jedoch, dass mit Wyloo ein weitere Player dabei ist, der auf Grund seiner Beteiligung von ca. 35% so vie Einfluss hat, dass BHP den Preis erhöhen muss. Daher wird wohl ein weiteres Angebot von BHP kommen, mit dem Wyloo dann auch leben kann. Ich tippe auf 1 CAD.

Ich hatte der zwangsweisen Barfusion widersprochen. Mein Bestand wurde daraufhin gesperrt und am 01.04.2022 als freier Bestand wieder eingebucht.
Zuvor wurde angekündigt, dass ich meine Aktien behalten kann, wenn mehr als 20 % aller Aktien im Umlauf bleiben.
