Habe übrigens nie an Deine Kompetenz gezweifelt.
best wishes

Hi all CCler & especially jvolta!
Ganz einfach.
Manchmal gilt halt der alte Spruch "was lange währt...".
Denkt mal an Kostolany.

An Seitenfallzieher,

Vielleicht gibt´s ja in 2001 schon Dividende.
(MK i.M. bei 575 Mio)
Bleibt dabei, bleibt gut informiert
und bleibt cool.

Ola CC- Clubler,

Anyway don´t panik!!!

Hi all!
Schaut Euch el grande chart furioso an!!

Was eigentlich schon längst überfällig wäre!
Warte erst auf einige Pressemitteilung von

took over the role of major shareholder and management of the

was meint ihr?

Data as of: 4/7/00
Company Description
Culturecom Holdings Limited publishes two daily newspapers in Chinese language, Tin Tin Daily
News and Huanan Jingii journal. The group also publishes and prints a number of local comics
and leisure magazines. The other activities include property investment and investment holding.
The group mainly operates in Hong Kong. The group acquired Fighting Spirit Technology Limited
in April 1999, Snow Drop Management Limited in July 1999, disposed Ying Kee Safes and
Furniture Limited in August 1998 and sold publishing operations of Tin Tin Daily News to
VIAGOLD in August 1999. Publication accounted for 88% of fiscal 1999 revenues and printing,
12%.
Sales Analysis
During the second fiscal quarter of 2000, sales at Culturecom Holdings Limited totalled
HK$100.12 million. This is a drop of 6.2% from the HK$106.73 million in sales at the company
during the second quarter in 1999.
During the year ended March of 1999, sales at Culturecom Holdings Limited were HK$213.15
million (US$27.39 million). This is a sharp decrease of 31.0% versus 1998, when the company`s
sales were HK$309.00 million. Contributing to the drop in overall sales was the 41.0% decline in
Printing, from HK$42.71 million to HK$25.21 million. There were also decreases in sales in
Publication (down 24.4% to HK$187.94 million) .
During the past five years, sales of Printing have become increasingly important to the
company, and in 1999 accounted for 12% of the total sales at Culturecom Holdings Limited,
versus only 2% of total sales in 1995.
Recent Stock Performance
The stock price has more than doubled
recently: For the 52 weeks ending 4/7/00, the
stock of this company was up 1,171.7% to
HK$1.58. During the past 13 weeks, the stock
has increased 222.4%.
During the 12 months ending 9/30/99, the
company has experienced losses totalling
HK$0.14 per share. These 12 month earnings
are greater than the earnings per share achieved during the last fiscal year of the company,
which ended in March of 1999, when the company reported earnings of -0.16 per share. Note
that the earnings number includes a nominal amount pre-tax credit and 0.12 pre-tax charge in
fiscal year 1999.
This company is currently trading at 10.64 times sales. The price to sales ratio is used fairly
widely when valuing printing and publishing companies. Culturecom Holdings Limited is trading
at 35.54 times book value.
The market capitalization of this company is HK$2.27 billion (US$291.43 million) . The
capitalization of the floating stock (i.e., that which is not closely held) is HK$1.43 billion
(US$184.01 million) .
Dividend Analysis
This company has paid no dividends during the last 12 months. The company also reported
losses during the previous 12 months. Culturecom Holdings Limited last paid a dividend during
fiscal year 1995, when it paid dividends of 0.04 per share.
Profitability Analysis
On the HK$213.15 million in sales reported by the company in 1999, the cost of goods sold
totalled HK$217.88 million, or 102.2% of sales (i.e., the gross profit was -2.2% of sales). This
gross profit margin is better than the company achieved in 1998, when cost of goods sold
totalled 103.4% of sales.
In 1999, earnings before extraordinary items at Culturecom Holdings Limited were -HK$179.64
million, or -84.3% of sales. This profit margin is lower than the level the company achieved in
1998, when the profit margin was -24.5% of sales. The company has reported losses before
extraordinary items for each of the past 4 years. (1996 was the last year the company
reported profits from ordinary operations, when it reported HK$47.58 million in earnings).
The company`s return on equity in 1999 was -84.4%. This was significantly worse than the
-26.2% return the company achieved in 1998. (Extraordinary items have been excluded).
During the second quarter of 2000, Culturecom Holdings Limited reported a loss per share of
HK$0.01. The company also reported losses during the second quarter of 1999, of HK$0.03 per
share.
Inventory Analysis
As of March 1999, the company`s inventory was HK$4.87 million. Since the cost of goods sold
was HK$217.88 million for the year, the company had 8 days of inventory on hand (another way
to look at this is to say that the company turned over its inventory 44.7 times per year). In terms
of inventory turnover, this is a significant improvement over March 1998, when the company`s
inventory was HK$16.03 million, equivalent to 18 days in inventory.
Financial Position
At the end of 1999, Culturecom Holdings Limited had negative working capital, as current
liabilities were HK$75.75 million while total current assets were only HK$71.28 million. The fact
that the company has negative working capital could indicate that the company will have
problems in expanding. However, negative working capital in and of itself is not necessarily bad,
and could indicate that the company is very efficient at turning over inventory, or that the
company has large financial subsidiaries.
As of March 1999, the company`s long term debt was HK$28.15 million and total liabilities (i.e.,
all monies owed) were HK$105.17 million. The long term debt to equity ratio of the company is
0.33.
As of March 1999, the accounts receivable for the company were HK$51.13 million, which is
equivalent to 88 days of sales. This is sharply higher than at the end of 1998, when Culturecom
Holdings Limited had 46 days of sales in accounts receivable.

Sehr gut, jvolta, sehr gut.
Ich zitiere:
"To give investors a perspective,
we estimate Q9J being a better productJ will be able to take
over 80% of this one market segment and generate sales of $96m
even if Qcode charges only US$0.5/HK$4 license fee per phone.
Using a price to sales ratio of 300x (current valuation of a
similar US listed company, Zi Corp) and a discount rate of 20%,
the valuation of Q9 is about $5bn or $2.50 per share.
This valuation does not include other wireless communication

Using a price to sales ratio of 300x (current valuation of a

the valuation of Q9 is about $5bn or $2.50 per share.
This valuation does not include other wireless communication

Hallo Jvolta
Habe ihn heute in drei Mails geteilt. Tut mir leid

which in aggregate accounts tor about 60% of book sales in the country)
to seIl their books through the web.
This enrichment of its content will enable Culturecom
to provide access to a wide range of popular titles.
..and can access the PRC market
There is a vast and untapped market In China that Culturecom aims to reach.
By teaming up with the Ministry of Culture, Culturecom is the first foreign
company authorized to publish and seIl its comics in 33 provinces in the PRC.
This agreement allows Culturecom to reach a 1.3 billion people marketplace.
For book titles, it has also signed agreements with various University
libraries in China to obtain access to their publications in the future.
The technology to standardize and index Chinese readings,

has over 20 years of experience in Chinese software development.
He developed a universal software platform that utilizes
Changjei codes (instead of a pre-set font database)
to form Chinese characters. This method allows standardization
to the encoding format and frees up memory².
The software developed by Mr. Chu can also translate codes into
images and animations. This platform is based on the
Changjei Chinese input method (invented by Mr. Chu) and is
employed worldwide. The multi-lingual ability of this platform
means that there will be potential to apply the standard to
other languages such as Japanese and Korean.
The sale of affordable electronic book devices.
The electronic book is a wireless electronic
device of A-5 size weighting about 500 grams.:
Culturecom has teamed up with two key PDA manufacturers.
They are currently producing PDAs on an OEM basis.
For the initial prototypes, the production cost was about
US$100-$200 each.
Mr. Chu is currently changing the design to cut the number of
imported components. The modified version could cut cost sharply.
To promote electronic reading habits, these devices
will be marketed at prices lower than PDAs.
They will be launched by the autumn of this year.
The initial market to be targeted will be
the younger age group in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
What is our evaluation of the potential of this project?
A major electronic publisher in Asia
Having the ability to create a new standard for electronic publishing
in Chinese means Culturecom will be the leader in the field.
Other publishers and media companies in Asia may be try to compete
but Culturecom will have an advantage in technology.
International software companies may try to compete but they
lack the local market knowledge and content.
We believe Culturecom has a strong comparative advantage in
developing this market. We expect Culturecom will also incorporate
games and other 3D features into its
electronic book devices thereby broadening its appeal.
3) GLOBALRES
What is the model for GlobalRes?
GlobalRes is a real-time business to business worldwide
hotel reservation system. It was originally developed
by Asia World and New World International Limited in 1996.
The first version of GlobalRes used ClientlServer based technology,
and Internet as the network carrier. The real time,
interactive version was launched in the middle of 1997.
Culturecom acquired a 60% stake of GlobalRes in December1999.
The system provides an electronic marketplace where travel agents
can instantly book hotels worldwide at any time and from any place,
using standard web browsers. Culturecom acquired the project in 1999.
It now provides real-time booking for 22,000 hotels worldwide.
On average, the system has 18,000 rooms booked per month
or 600 rooms booked per day. It has 1 ,000 wholesale
travel agents to seIl rooms worldwide. Its bulk purchases enables
GlobalRes to enjoy discounts from hoteliers and make profits from
wholesaling hotel rooms to travel agents. In 1999,
GobalRes reported sales of $150m and net profits of $3.5m.

OK, habe FERTIG!
An efficient system for small to medium sized hotels
Hoteliers, especially the medium size hotels or hostels,
rely mostlyon tour groups or independent travelers for business.
Being small in size, these hoteliers, even though they have branches
in cities worldwide, do not want to commit to the overhead costs
(including manpower, telephone fees and hardware maintenance) of running
their own reservation system. GlobalRes charge hoteliers a small
commission fee, which is calculated per room per night for each
materialized booking. In return, hoteliers have a network of
agents worldwide to seIl their rooms by joining GlobalRes.
Under the system, GlobalRes negotiates the charges with each of the
agents independently. As all the commission rates charged is not disclosed,
GlobalRes is a market maker amongst these agents.
The real-time web site allows flexibility to agents
Travel agents benefit from easy access to over 22,000 hotels worldwide.
GlobalRes real-time web based system allows members to respond efficiently
to clients` demands. If they are large in size and hence operate with a group
of sub-agents, GlobalRes otters to lease the hardware and train them to handle
their sub-agents. Starting from 20 of this year, the Company will charge a
monthly fee to all of the agents for providing the services. These will form a
solid recurrent income for Culturecom.
The upgraded GlobalRes will include B2C.
After the modification by Mr. Chu, the upgraded version of GlobalRes will
provide B2C service. This service will be marketed by May.
In Hong Kong, GlobalRes will team up with Hong Kong Telecom`s Netvigator
and capture its 0.6m subscriber base. By then, end users will be able to
use their credit cards to book hotels worldwide through the payment gateway
of Hong Kong Telecom. Later on, GlobalRes will also incorporate advertising
features into the web.
What is the value of the project to Culturecom?
Positive benefits from GlobalRes include (a) It will form part of the
services provided in the B2C web site developed by Culturecom called
Culturekids; (b) The upgraded version, with more enhanced features,
will allow GlobalRes to charge membership fee on its 1 ,000 members.
(c)The inclusion of advertising and B2C features into GlobalRes will
increase its earning base and hence Culturecom`s recurrent income.
(c) Running a profit making operation in a mature and yet competitive
hotel industry proves that GlobalRes has a viable earnings model.
(d) The investment amount for this web site is small hence returns are large.
4) E-TAlLING
What is the idea behind the Culturekid`s ishop?
The idea is to utilize expertise in software and run a 30-website
showroom for members of Culturekid ishop. Customers can then order
on line or get fulfillment by visiting a physical ishop
operated by a franchisee. The benefit to the franchisees is that
will not need to keep large inventories. They benefit the marketing
ettect of the Culturekid`s web page. Culturecom will employ an
entrepreneur scheme whereby individuals who want to become an ishop
owner can obtain 90% of the start up financing from Citibank.
Such minimal initial investment requirements should induce franchisee interest.
Customers of the Culturekid-ishop will be enrolled under a membership
scheme modelIed on Amway`s. The site will attract kids who want to
access the latest comics and comic news and goods designed to appeal
to them. Suppliers earn by bundled wholesaling. As a network of franchisees
will collectively own the distribution, the credit risk for Culturecom is
relatively insignificant. Culturecom in ettect utilizes its web site technology
to provide an attractive website showroom for an aggregate of retailers.
The company is negotiating with retail chains to become strategic investors in the site.
Management
A strong Ir team headed by Mr. Chu & Mr. Leung
Culturecom has two software development teams headed by Mr. Chu Bong Foo and
Mr. Leung Lap Yan respectively. Mr. Chung Bong Foo, the inventor of the
Changjei Index system, has over 20 years of experience in Chinese software development.
His expertise will ensure that Culturecom will be at the forefront of any
Chinese language software development. Mr. Chu`s team of 20 technicans has teamed
up with the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing to develop the Chinese computer
operating system "Chinese 2000". This system, being versatile and portable, is similar
to Linus or Unix. A general application of the system will enable Culturecom to become
the Microsoft of China. Mr. Leung`s team is principally engaged in the development
and sale of application software, including Qcode and Q9.
Looking ahead, we expect Culturecom will acquire more hi-tech teams to
strengthen its human resources.
Current management made some decisive moves.
Since the take-over of Culturecom at the end of 1998,
management has made some decisive moves.
(a) The cost rationalisation program undertaken in 1999 led
to a sharp fall in operating costs for the comics` division.
(b) The sale of the 18,000 sq ft printing plant in Taipo
cut loss-making division.
(c) The sale of the 70% of the loss making Tin Tin Daily News
to the parent, ViaGold for HK$6m, in September 1999 enabled
the parent to utilize the loss for tax planning.
(d) The acquisitions of Mr. Chu`s software company in April1999 and
Mr. Leung`s stake in Qcode in June 1999 have built up Culturecom` s technology team.
A management team with the ability to deliver.
Headed by Mr. Joseph Hui, management succeeded in cutting losses of its core business
within months. For Tin Tin Daily News, losses were cut from $6m per month in December
1999 to close to break-even levels by 2Q 2000. After the sale to ViaGold, Culturecom
is now making a net return of $1 m a month from management fees and typesetting.
The intense competition in the comics market together with the weakening in the
consumption of comics demands further downsizing of the comic operation.
The headcount has been cut from over 160 in middle of 1999 to 60 at present.
By setting up a workshop in the PRC and outsourcing stories, staff in the
comics division will also be cut to about 10 in Hong Kong and 20 in China.
After the cost cutting, Culturecom has a slimmer cost structure. Thanks to
the licensing income from its comics to Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore,
the comics` division now makes about $1.5m profits per month.
What are the synergies from the existing management?
The Chairman of Culturecom, Mr.Cheung Wai Tung has the experience in running a
listed company. The Vice-Chairman, Mr. Chu Bong Foo, is leader of the IT team,
Mr. Joseph Hui, is an experienced banker who is responsible for planning.
Directors of its parent, ViaGold Capital, Mr. Manayan Henry Chang, is current
ly the Mayor of Milpitas, Califronia. He provides hi-tech information trends
to Culturecom. The other directors have connections with Taiwan and US.
Director,
This management team will provide Culturecom with good connections in Asia.
Mr. Kung`s knowledge of movie making will enhance the management expertise
in comic sales in the future.

Earnings Forecast, Earning Projection und die Firmen Struktur
kann mein Scanner leider nicht lesen!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Our projections could be on the low end if the Company teams up with strategic
investors to expand its project coverage GlobalRes and Culturekids.com.
No initial contributions from projects under development like the Chinese DNA,
parallel progressing and 3D Animation are included.
What is the current financia` position?
With the sale of the Tin Tin Daily News and a major cut in the headcount
in the comics` division, we expect losses will be cut substantially in 2000.
Culturecom also succeeded in cutting down account receivables substantially
from $12m at the end of 1998 to a current position of about $3m. At present,
Culturecom has total debts of $170m. It has cash of about $400m.
Upon the exercise of warrants by June, the Company will receive another $80m.
What capital expenditure is planned?
As the Company is rich in cash, it has adequate resources to to fund its
capex requirement of about $390m in the next two years. About $200m of the
budgeted capital and marketing expenditure will be spent in developing
a Chinese OS over the next two years. This project is being developed
in a joint venture between the Academy of Science in Beijing and the company.
Culturecom has already invested about RMB10m so far. A total of $150m is also
allocated for the development and marketing of the electronic book.
The funding is being used for investing in software. The rest of $40m
is for working capital.

History and Development
Cultcurecom was founded in 1965 and was listed in August 1986 under the name
of Jademan (Holdings) Limited. The following year, the company acquired

Frieden, Pibu?
Habe mich wohl geirrt. Excuse.

Viele neue Infos, insbesondere Zahlen.

zweitrangig. Die anderen Projekte sind weitaus lukrativer!
Wann sollte die "Microsoft-Windows-Alternative" offiziell eingeführt werden?
Ab Oktober.

Koo`s Group in online travel venture
http://www.taiwanheadlines.gov.tw/20000314/20000314b3.html
Published: March 14, 2000
Source: The Taiwan Economic News
Taiwan-based Koo`s Group and Hong Kong-based GlobalRes are
negotiating a possible joint venture to create an online
reservation system. GlobalRes has launched similar ventures
in mainland China, Singapore and Indonesia.
GlobalRes provides online hotel booking around the world.
More than 1,000 travel agencies are members of the
network and bout 25,000 have signed contracts with
GlobalRes to use its online services.
The Hong Kong firm plans to expand its business in Southeast Asia,
where the travel industry is rapidly maturing.
The company is concentrating particularly on the Taiwan,
mainland China and Hong Kong markets. In order to more
effectively tap these markets, GlobalRes has decided to form
strategic alliances with leading companies in the target countries and regions.
GlobalRes and the Koo`s Group will set up a new company in
Taiwan within a month. The venture will have a paid-in
capital of NT$200 million (US$6.45 million at US$1:NT$31),
with Koos and GlobalRes holding 60% and 40% stakes, respectively.
GlobalRes currently concentrates on the B2B (business to business)
end of the online travel reservation market. Through its cooperation
with the Koos Group, it will expand further into the B2C
(business to customer) realm.
In mainland China, GlobalRes has collaborated with semi-official
institutions, and in Singapore the company will cooperate with a
well-established company owned by political celebrity Lee Hsien Lung.
Its Indonesian partner is the Lippo Group.
The new joint ventures will float shares on their home stock markets
in the future. Currently, GlobalRes plans to list on the
U.S. Nasdaq stock market.

Hi jvolta!
Kommt langsam Bewegung in unser Baby, was!?

Analyseschulen erarbeiteten Kenngrößen an.

GLOBALRES PUSHES INTO SINGAPORE MARKET
By Vera Lye
GlobalRes, an Internet-based worldwide hotel reservation system, has opened an office in Singapore and intends to "push the product harder" into the market, increasing both its user base and its hotel inventory, said Hong Kong-based chairman Peter Sung.
"We want to further develop our network of wholesalers who use the system," said Sung of the objective of the Singapore office.
The Singapore office will also be responsible for contracting hotels in new markets including Africa, Turkey and the Indian continent.
GlobalRes allows hotel wholesalers to book hotel inventory on-line via the Internet 24 hours a day. Users can also print billing, costing and booking reports from the website.
Currently, the system hosts some 18,000 hotels and registers a turnaround of about 12,000 roomnights per month. The target is to increase the inventory to 20,000 hotels and have a 20,000 roomnight production per month worldwide by the end of this year, said Sung.
Wholesalers pay a US$5,000 standing deposit to subscribe to the system. The deposit, however, can be used immediately against the monthly invoice.
Sung said the next development phase of the system would include packaging of hotels, air fares and land components.
GlobalRes was first launched in 1996 in Hong Kong by AsiaWorld Hong Kong, an inbound travel agency. AsiaWorld now has offices in San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, Shanghai and Singapore.

gekommen. Das Unternehmen betreibt unter www.tom.com ein
china-orientiertes Portal in mehereren Sprachen.
