Hier gibt es jede Menge Informationen für einen besseren Überblick.

Nachfolgend eine Zusammenfassung der Präsentation vom 21.11.2006 (als Tondokument über die Website abzuhören)
(Die als Kommentar gekennzeichneten Stellen habe ich zur Verdeutlichung eingefügt)

BPM ist der größte öffentlich gehandelte reine Moly-Hersteller (allerdings auch der einzige).
BPM ist der viert- oder fünftgrößte Moly-Hersteller weltweit und produziert 5-6% des weltweit hergestellten Molys.
BPM verkauft 9% des weltweit vertriebenen Molys. Dies erklärt sich damit, dass der Weltmarkt derzeit 400 Mio Pfund umfasst, und BPM eine Röst-Kapazität von 50 Mio Pfund hat. Davon werden 26 Mio Pfund in eigenen Minen abgebaut (Kommentar: der Rest wird von anderen Minen angeliefert).

Thompson Creek hatte 2005 (Geschäftsjahr endet im September) insgesamt 845 Mio $ Erlöse. In 2006 waren es 805 Mio (Kommentar: Jahreszahl 2006 ergänzt. Erlöse sind nicht Gewinn - es gahen noch Kosten und evtl. Steuern ab). Alle Angaben in US$.
Die durchschnittlichen Produktionskosten betrugen etwa 4,50$ pro Pfund (etwas unterschiedlich je nach Jahr).

Thompson-Creek-Mine
Die Thompson-Creek-Mine ist das Juwel des Unternehmens. Sie wurde 1983 von Standart Oil gebaut zum Preis von 350 Mio $. Um diese Mine heute so aufzubauen, wäre ein Kapital von mehr als 1 Milliarde $ erforderlich. Sie ist die zweitgrößte Moly-Tagebau-Mine weltweit.
Die derzeit nachgewiesenen Rohstoffe reichen für eine weiteren Abbau von 10 Jahren. Diese letzte Berechnung wurde bei einem Moly-Preisniveau von 5$ durchgeführt. Es ist die Aufgabe des Managements, ausgehend von einem Preis von 10$ eine neue Berechnung anzustellen und die nachgewiesenen und wirtschaftlich abbaubaren Rohstoffe entsprechend auszuweiten.

(Kommentar: Bei einem Moly-Preis von 5$ ist es nur begrenzt sinnvoll, große Mengen an taubem Gestein zu entfernen, um an die tiefer gelegenen Moly-Vorräte zu kommen. Bei einem Moly-Preis von 10$ (oder natürlich mehr) kann man viel mehr taubes Gestein wegräumen (also zusätzliche Kosten in Kauf nehmen) ohne in die Verlustzone zu gelangen. Die mit Gewinn abbaubaren Moly-Vorräte können zu diesem höheren Preis ganz erheblich ausgeweitet werden (siehe auch die sehr aufschlußreiche Grafik aus der Präsentation im ersten Posting im Präsentations-Thread)

Die neuen, höheren Werte sollen bis zum 2. Quartal 2007 ausgewiesen sein.

Endako
Endako wurde 1965 gebaut von .... und 1997 von TC gekauft. 75% gehören TC (bzw. jetzt BPM), 25% gehören Sojitz, einer großen japanischen Handelsgesellschaft. Sojitz ist gleichzeitig Verkaufsagent für Japan und Teile von Asien.
Die Rohstoffe der Endako-Mine reichen für einen weiteren Abbau von 7 Jahren. Die Berechnungen wurden sehr konservativ bei einem Moly-Preis von 3,50 Dollar durchgeführt. Die Reserven sollen (siehe oben) bis zum 2. Quartal 2007 ebenfalls ganz erheblich ausgeweitet werden.
2007 werden 12,5 Mio Pfund produziert. BPM erhält davon 75%

Langeloth Metallurgical Facility
Langeloth verarbeitet 35 Mio Pfund Moly pro Jahr. Die Hälfte davon wird auf eigene Rechnung aus eigener Mine verarbeitet. Ein weiterer Teil wird im Lohnauftrag für andere Firmen durchgeführt. Zusätzlich kauft BPM am Markt Moly auf zur Weiterverarbeitung und es wird auch Moly-Recycling durchgeführt.
Langeloth produziert das weltweit beste Ferro-Molybdän. BPM ist der größte Moly-Produzent in den USA.
Das beste Molybdän (1/3 der Weltproduktion) kommt von reinen Moly-Herstellern (Kommentar: also nicht als Abfallprodukt der Kupfer-Produktion). Davon gibt es 4 in Amerika. BPM gehören 2 davon. Es gibt 5 Röster in Nordamerika. BPM gehören 2 davon. Aufgrund der hohen Moly-Qualität kann BPM auf den Marktpreis einen Aufschlag von 2-3% verlangen.
Langeloth wurde 1924 gebaut. Es befindet sich in ausgezeichnetem Zustand, da jeden September für 3 Wochen die Produktion für eine Generalüberholung unterbrochen wird. Es ist wahnsinnig schwierig eine derartige Verarbeitungsanlage neu genehmigt zu bekommen.

Davidson-Projekt
Das Davidson-Projekt ist die größte Moly-Lagerstätte in Kanada. Die Feasibility-Studie sollte letzten Monat fertig werden. Aufgrund des hohen Zeitaufwandes für die TC-Übernahme sind diese Arbeiten etwas in Rückstand geraten. Der neue Termin ist Januar, und es sieht sehr gut aus.
Es sollen aus dem hochgradigen Teil der Lagerstätte 2000 t pro Tag abgebaut werden und nach Endako zur Weiterverarbeitung geschafft werden. Der Transport soll nicht auf der Schiene sondern mit LKW erfolgen, da dies kostengünstiger ist.
In Davidson wird Moly mit einer Konzentration von 0,36 - 0,38% abgebaut. Dies ist weltweit die höchste Konzentration. Die zweitgrößte Konzentration hat derzeit die Henderson-Mine mit 0,28%.

Kommentar: Es folgt nun eine Aufzählung der Anwendungen für Moly. Diese vollständig aufzuzählen will ich mir hier ersparen. Nur soviel:
Moly ist nicht durch ein anderes Material zu ersetzen. In jedem Auto sind 0,9 Pfund Moly verarbeitet. Im Jahr werden 55 Mio Autos hergestellt. Moly kann nur in sehr geringem Umfang recycelt werden. Moly dient zur Herstellung von rostfreiem Stahl und für Pipelines. Pro km wird etwa 1 t Moly benötigt, bei größeren Pipeline auch sehr viel mehr. Viele Pipelines sind 30-50 Jahre alt und müssen ersetzt werden.

BPM ist sehr optimistisch für einen hohen Moly-Preis. Der Bedarf steigt um 5-6% pro Jahr. Der Moly-Markt umfasst derzeit 400 Mio Pounds pro Jahr. In den nächsten 13-14 Jahren werden 700 Mio benötigt. Es ist unklar, wer diese zusätzliche Menge produzieren soll. Es wurde eine ganze Generation lange nicht nach Moly-Lagerstätten gesucht (Kommentar: da der Preis viel zu niedrig war und ein Überangebot am Markt bestand. Dies führte dazu, dass in der derzeitigen Knappheits-Situation fast keine Minen neu in Produktion gehen können, aufgrund der langen Vorlaufzeit)

BPM (TC) produzierte bisher etwa 25-26 Mio Pounds im Jahr. 2007 werden es nur etwa 20 Mio sein, da in der Thompson-Creek-Mine derzeit erst Gestein mit niedrigerem Gehalt verarbeitet werden muss. Ab 2008/2009 soll die Produktion auf 35 Mio Pounds steigen.
BPM tut was sie können, um die Produktion zu steigern. So werden (vermutlich in TC) derzeit jeweils 7 Tage gearbeitet, dann jeweils 7 Tage pausiert. Dies soll ab Beginn nächsten Jahres gesteigert werden auf 10 Tage Arbeit, 4 Tage Pause. Bis Mai 2007 sollen dann 95% Auslastung erreicht sein.

Es ist sehr schwer und dauert 5-7 Jahre eine neue Moly-Mine in Betrieb zu nehmen.
BPM möchte organisch wachsen und nicht einen anderen Explorer übernehmen.
Die Kosten eine Mine in Betrieb zu nehmen betragen 500 Mio $. Dieses Kapital muss zuerst aufgebracht werden und die Produktion kann erst 3 Jahre später beginnen. Aus diesem Grund ist es für ein neues Unternehmen extrem schwierig überhaupt in den Markt zu kommen (Kommentar: Dies dürfte wohl auch ein Grund sein, warum viele Explorer es nie zum Producer bringen, da ein immenser Kapitalaufwand erforderlich ist, der für Jahre irgendwie vorfinanziert werden muss).
Für den Shareholder-Value ist es sinnvoller aus sich selbst heraus zu wachsen. 6% der BPM-Aktien sind in den Händen des BPM-Management (Kommentar: das gibt Vertrauen)

Working Capital
BPM hat 80 Mio auf der Bank. Zusätzlich besitzt BPM 8 Mio Pounds Moly (Kommentar: im Lagerhaus), die sehr konservativ nicht zu Verkaufspreisen sondern zu Herstellungkosten bewertet sind (Kommentar: bei den derzeitigen Moly-Preisen stellt dies einen Verkaufswert von 224 Mio $ dar).

Bei der Übernahme am 26.Oktober waren noch 61 Mio $ an Mooney abzulösen. Dvon sind bereits 46 Mio aus laufenden Einnahmen bezahlt worden. Dies ist ein Beweis, dass BPM richtig gut Geld verdient. (Kommentar: 15 Mio sind noch offen und sollten demnach in weiteren 2 Wochen abbezahlt sein ).

BPM hat für 4 Jahre 1 Mio Pounds zum Preis vom 7,50$ an Sojitz verkauft. Es gibt ansonsten keine Hedge-Positionen.

Der Weltmarkt beträgt derzeit 400 Mio Pounds Moly. Die beider Röster von BPM decken davon 50 Mio ab, (Kommentar: BPM besitzt 1/8 der weltweiten Rösterkapazität)

BPM verkauft 70% seiner Produktion über feste Verträge. In den Verträgen ist nur die Liefermenge festgelegt, nicht der Preis. Der Preis der Lieferung ergibt sich aus dem Durchschnittspreis des Vormonates aus 2 einschlägigen Publikationen. Die restlichen 30% werden zum Spotpreis verkauft.

Der Gewinn von 1 Mio $ pro Tag soll zunächst zur Schuldentilgung (400 Mio) verwendet werden. Bei derzeitigem Moly-Preis werden die Schulden in 2 Jahren abbezahlt sein. Falls ab Montag der Moly-Preis auf 12$ fällt, dann wird dies 5 Jahre in Anspruch nehmen.
Parallel dazu soll Davidson so schnell wie möglich in Produktion gebracht werden.

Zum Schluß noch einmal mein Posting von letzter Nacht, ebenfalls die Präsentation betreffend:

Die Endako-Mine und der der dortige Röster gehört zu 75 % BPM, zu 25 % den Japanern (wie hieß die Firma gleich - Sojitz).
Das Moly-Erz von Davidson soll ja nach Endako gebracht werden zum rösten. Zudem soll das höherwertige Moly von Davidson mit dem nicht ganz so hochwertigen von Endako gemischt werden (blend), um ein einheitliches, hochwertiges Produkt anzubieten.

Es wäre nun eine sehr komplizierte und möglicherweise auch nicht wirklich gerecht durchzuführende Berechnung erforderlich, wieviel jede der beiden beteiligten Firmen nun von den entstehenden Kosten zu tragen hätte und wieviel jede von dem Gewinn zu bekommen hätte.

Sehr viel einfacher wäre es, wenn den Japanern auch von Davidson der gleiche 25%-Anteil gehören würde. Dann könnte man einfach den am Ende verbleibenden Gewinn zu 75% und 25% aufteilen ohne endlose Rechenexempel durchführen zu müssen.

Ein kleiner, vermutlich nicht unwillkommener Nebeneffekt wäre es, dass BPM durch den Verkauf von 25% des Davidson-Projektes ganz erhebliche Geldmittel zufliessen würden.
Ich habe 294 Mio Pfund als fast schon nachgewiesene Molymenge im Kopf (und noch eine weitere große Menge vermutet). Bei 28$ wären dies 8,2 Milliarden. 25% davon, die verkauft werden sollen, wären rund 2 Milliarden. Selbst wenn die Japaner nur 10-20% des Wertes bezahlen würden, wären das dann 200-400 Millionen US$. BPM wäre damit sehr schnell schuldenfrei.
Ian hat dies für das 1. Quartal 2007 ins Auge gefasst.

>> Andrew: We're back with "after hours." Even though blue pearl mining has been the best performing stock on the T.S.X. Over the past year, the company has never actually turned a profit. For a closer look at its q4 earnings and why blue pearl plans to change its name we turn to the chairman and C.E.O. Ian macdonald. Ian, it's great to have you here. Thanks very much. >> Ian mcdonald: Nice to be here.
>> Andrew: Hot play on molybdenum. Why is the world so crazy for molybdenum right now?
>> Ian mcdonald: Well, I don't know all the reasons it does seem to have certainly be in the news a lot lately with eric sprott starting the molybdenum participation fund and i think investors searching for the next story. Molybdenum is a commodity even though it's what they call a noble metal or a base metal the price is really determined on the supply and demand. There's no forward market for it. >> Andrew: Its main use is making steel harder and more durable?
>> Ian mcdonald: It makes steel less corrosive. It makes it stronger in small quantities changing the molecular structure the grain strength and makes it more ductile expand and contract easier.
>> Andrew: Why is demand for moly so strong right now?
>> Ian mcdonald: Well, it's been growing about 4% a year for a number of decades was projected to continue. It's about 6% last year almost 20% in china. It's the high end steel. Stainless steel market. In other words, in say the developing world they want to have things that that we have. You need molybdenum it's not in knives and forks it's in the applications such as in the food industry the drug industry the oil and gas industry. >> Andrew: They use it for pipelines.
>> Ian mcdonald: Cars use almost a pound per vehicle.
>> Andrew: You just took over a company called thompson creek in idaho last year. That deal was worth more than $500 million. Where are your two mines are they producing right now?
>> Ian mcdonald: The thompson creek mine which is in idaho been in production for 24 years. And adaco mine is in british columbia which we own 75% it has been in production for 42 years.
>> Andrew: You are still losing money if the moly market is so hot how come you showed a q4 loss? >> Ian mcdonald: Our cash flow generation i think was tremendous. When we bought that company there was inventory of $70.8 million pounds of molybdenum in inventory everywhere from the hall truck right on the palette ready to be shipped to a customer. It's an accounting rule we had to value that so the cost was down around well under $10. The price at the time we bought the company was in the mid-20s. So we had to take and I'm not the person to explain why we have to do this other than it's a accounting rule as per the cost of the company $100 million hit. So $70 million was taken in q4. 30 will be taken in first quarter this year. Up for back that paper or noncash number out we actually made a lot of money. >> Pat: And your cash flow is just fine. You're a pure play producing a good chunk of the world's pure play molybdenum it's also produced as a by-product of copper. Specialized moly mine. How is that different from a regular-base metal mine?
>> Ian mcdonald: Only in the fact that it only produces molybdenum. Very rarely does molybdenum primary mine produce anything else. The 60% of molybdenum production does come as by-product from copper mines. So 40% is produced as primary mines. I think there's four mines in the americas primary mines. We own two of them. >> Andrew: I hear some expression roasting molybdenum. What does that mean. You don't seem to hear it about base metals so much?
>> Ian mcdonald: They call it smelting with nickel they make a mat concentrate then they have to or a aluminum they have to do something that requires a lot of energy. With molybdenum we call it roasting. You actually smelting it. We call our roaster metallurgical facility. What you do is you take the sulfides out of it and produce an oxide it's a by-product we produce 200 tons of sul fouric acid a day as a by-product. >> Andrew: What do you do with that?
>> Ian mcdonald: We sell it. Unfortunately, sudbury produces so much that the price is only about $35 a ton.
>> Andrew: Not making too much on that.
>> Ian mcdonald: No.
>> Andrew: You're going for a listing on new york stock exchange are you dreading all the extra paperwork the sarbanes-oxley?
>> Ian mcdonald: The reality is we have to go through it anyway we might as well get some of the benefits. Since we're doing it anyway our shareholders I think will benefit greatly with the more exposure down in the united states. We hope to list down there. They haven't agreed to list us. I think we meet the qualification we still have to make the application. >> Andrew: You have been english mentioned as a big takeout candidate. Have you been approached?
>> Ian mcdonald: We don't discuss that but that's not something we're focusing on. We're focusing on growing the company and getting our debt paid down getting our new reserves and resources. Because they were done in moly was at a much lower price at these two mines. Also bringing our davidson deposit on stream. We should have that well under construction here by next year.
>> Andrew: Is there any danger we could see a big flood of molybdenum onto the market depressing prices? >> Ian mcdonald: In today's day and age it takes at least five years I think for a new mine to go from the feasibility and through permitting, financing, construction. So there's a tremendous barrier to entry for any new molybdenum green field project because there's no place to forward sell molybdenum. So the financing becomes, very, very difficult for a junior company.
>> Andrew: That's interesting. You can with copper and or other widely traded base metals but there's no actual futures market. Aealthough the L.M.E. Did announce yesterday they were going to try to call a futures market in molybdenum and cobalt for 2008. >> Andrew: We only have a few seconds we're seeing yet another takeover lionore another canadian mining company. Are you sad do you think it's regrettable we're seeing the hollowing out of our mining sector?
>> Ian mcdonald: Look, I think that's the kind of we're in business that's what can happen.
>> Andrew: It's a global game i guess.
>> Ian mcdonald: Yeah, that's right.
>> Andrew: Ian macdonald, thanks very much indeed.

Thompson Creek still a 'buy' despite production shortfall

Thompson Creek Metals Co.'s announcement that it's 2007 production targets have been revised downward put investors in a tizzy Thursday, sending the stock down more than 10% by trading day's end.

As shares continue to fall on Friday, analysts on the Street, including Versant Partners' Ian T. Parkinson, were weighing in to provide perspective on the production shortfall to their clients.


"From an operational perspective, it has to be understood that delays in large scale mining efforts are to be expected. The news of a rock slide or the difficulty in reaching high grade ore can be heard across the metals sector on any given day," Mr. Parkinson said in a research note.


"The one concern we would have is how much caution is built into the forecast – and on that note would prefer to see a more conservative ramp up for production, with discounts for items beyond the control of experienced operators."

So, taking a conservative stance, Mr. Parkinson revised his estimates for the molybdenum miner by further decreasing targets from Thompson's revised production forecasts of 17.5 and 24 million pounds for 2007 and 2008 down from 20.5 and 27 million pounds "in order to capture the risk of not achieving targets to date and the pace to ramp-up."


His estimates, including production, net asset value and cash flow, also exclude any upside from Thompson's Davidson mine coming online, the Endako mine expansion and any further potential at the Thompson Creek mine.

As such, Mr. Parkinson reduced his price target from $26.50 to $24.25 but still maintains his "buy" rating.

Mit voraussichtlich 27 Milliarden Dollar Baukosten wird sie das größte Bauprojekt aller Zeiten in Nordamerika sein.
Ein paar Pfund Molybdän werden dafür sicherlich auch benötigt...

schätze mal, dass der Bedarf an Moly für 5.600km Pipeline bei ca. 10-15 mio Pfund liegen dürfte

also immerhin von der Dimension her eine komplette Jahresproduktion der ENDAKO Mine
